Matthew Roeder Obituary

Dr. Matt Roeder LUBBOCK-Matthew Richard Roeder, Doctor of Chiropractic passed away Friday, July 29, 2016. Matt was the only child of Richard H. and Donna Brooks Roeder. Born in Amarillo in 1963, Matt lived most of his youth in Dalhart, Dumas, and Amarillo. He graduated from Dumas HS in 1981 and TSTI in 1983. He worked for Intel in Albuquerque from 1983 to 1985, and Southwestern Public Service Company in Lubbock from 1985 to 1995. He graduated Cum Laude from Texas Chiropractic College in Dec. 2000, and moved back to Lubbock immediately thereafter to begin his practice, The Chiropractic Care Center. Matt married Teresa Looney Roeder in 1992, and in 2001 they were blessed by the birth of their only child, Elise. He was devoted to God, his family, friends and patients, and loved to laugh, learn new things, and play guitar. He and his family enjoyed spending time together on long drives and walking hand-in-hand. Survivors include his wife, Teresa and daughter, Elise; aunt Wynell Hutson; cousin Chris Hutson and his family; mother-in-law, Maxine Looney; siblings-in-law Paul Looney, Linda Looney Tucker, Jack Clinton Looney, Celia Looney Slover and their families; as well as a wealth of friends. The Roeder family would like to express their sincere appreciation to their family, friends and patients who have become dear friends over the years, as well as all those at Accolade Hospice whose loving care made this time of loss much more bearable. Dr. Roeder asked his trusted friend and colleague, Robert Buchanan to care for his patients at 34th Street Chiropractic. It comforted him to know that his patients will be cared for in a manner very similar to his own. Viewing will be held Friday, Aug. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Agape Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Second Baptist Church, with a graveside service following in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.

Matt and I were close friends when we were young. I met Matt in 1981 when he was student at TSTI. We worked out together, went camping and fishing and visited through the years when we geographically close enough to do so. I last saw Matt in 1986 although we stayed in contact right up to a few months before his passing. Matt loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor, he was strong as bull too. Once as I was teasing him he grabbed me and picked me off the ground and held me in his arms like I was a baby and taunted me jokingly with "does the baby want his bottle?" Resistance was futile, he was so much stronger than me. It was funny and very memorable. we were close and his death has brought me great sadness. I pray for the comfort of Teresa and Elise. Good bye buddy.

I had only just met Matt a couple of months back, when he and Teresa and Elise were coming to visit Teresa's mother at a friend of mines where she lives. Another friend of mine and I were out on the porch playing guitar as usual on Sundays, and Matt just jumped right in and started picking with us. I don't think I remember meeting anyone ever in my life that was so likeable and my heart really goes out to the girls for their loss AND mine..I just lost MY mother and father last year, and now I have lost a friend ..you will be missed Matt...don't forget to play some Jim Croce for me next jam session, see you soon...but not yet

I met and immediately liked Matt and Teresa when Matt was entering chiropractic college as I was the Director of Admissions there at the time and interviewed him. Lovely, memorable people.

I can remember when Matt first met Teresa. I was cutting his hair and I believe he mentioned going through an approval process with Teresa's brothers. He was so excited to be apart of a family as he had grown up feeling somewhat alone. He was smitten with Teresa and God brought her into his life at just the right time. He had great admiration for his mother who he lost during the time he was in the singles at Trinity. We shared many good times during our days in the Trinity singles and our hair cutting appointments. He was also a compassionate person, he and Teresa visited me in the hospital on the Thanksgiving when I broke my leg. It was very sweet of them to come to the hospital during the holiday.
