I was saddened to learn of Dick's passing earlier today through an obituary that appeared in the most recent issue of Chemical & Engineering News.
I had the pleasure of collaborating with Dick for more than a decade while I was a young staff scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. His positive influence on my career was substantial, and for that I will always be grateful. I will miss his generosity, intellect, and kindness greatly.
My deepest condolences to his family on their loss.
Sincerely,
Mark L. Dietz

He gave my husband a job with a higher salary than advertised. We liked him very much, he was a very kind man. Iris Lopez
