I knew Carmella at first from opening the Paris Hotel/Casino. Afterward we became friends up until her passing. Carmella was a deeply spiritual woman and a devout Catholic. She loved animals. She looked out for and cared for cats in her neighborhood for years. She was very into the Boy Scouts and always supporting and helping them everyway she could. And Carmella always made time for her girls. The young troubled girls in the system for various reasons that Carmella made time for. She mentored, helped, listened and advised them the best she could. Carmella was always giving of herself and her time.
Carmella wouldn't want people to know all this stuff. She didn't do anything for the acknowledgement. But I think people need to know just how unselfish and truly giving she was.
Carmella had a very long and varied career. She and her husband George owned and ran hotels for years. She worked for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark Country Coroners Office. And she worked at the Paris Hotel/Casino. Carmella loved working.
But Carmella loved her family more than anything. She loved and missed her husband George. And was always going off to visit one of her children and grandchildren somewhere.
Carmella was ill for sometime before she passed but never complained or really talked about it. She was into living and didn't want to dwell on it.
Carmella and I use to get together once a week for breakfast somewhere. We'd chat about whatever adventures we had that week. Carmella was such a genuinely kind, sweet and caring person. I miss my breakfasts with her and our chats. But I do know this, she is with her husband George now and happy.

Dear Carla and Darla,
Tony and I were saddened to see that your mother had passed, and yet, glad she is in Heaven now.We felt blessed to have known your mother and your brother Randy, both of them hold special places in our hearts. Your mother became our really special friend through our involvement in BSA. Carmella took it upon herself to mentor many boys in scouting, our son A.J.,was one. She took a special interest in A.J. and never missed an award ceremony, including his Eagle Scout.
Like I said, your mom was a super special lady. We will miss her.
Sending you Sympathy,
Tony and Mary Rodrigues

I am honored to have been Carmella's daughter-in-law. I admired much in her character and her conduct. She endured many significant losses in her life and sacrificed much in order to live according to her principles. I was often the beneficiary of her kindness, decency, generosity, and affection. My condolences to you, Carla, Darla, Joyce, and all your family.

I loved Carmella so much, she was the strongest and toughest person I knew and yet loving, kind and giving. Her faith was so strong and she feared nothing. I really will miss her but I believe she is with our Lord now , the best place for her to be.
