DIANA HAMPTON Obituary

HON. DIANA HAMPTON Diana Dawn Hampton, Chief Judge for the City of Henderson Municipal Court, passed away March 13, 2016, at age 50. Born Dec. 6, 1965, she resided in southern Nevada since the age of two. The first female elected to judge in the city of Henderson, Judge Hampton touched many lives during her brief time on Earth. Despite a challenging childhood, she obtained a GED and set her sights on being an attorney. She earned a bachelor of science degree in Kinesiology from UNLV and later a law degree from California Western School of Law. Diana was elected to the Henderson Municipal Court in 2005 and re-elected in 2011. She was named the senior chief municipal judge in Jan. 2016 and previously served as chief judge from January 2008 to December 2011. During her second year as judge, she created the Advance Interactive Driver's Education (AIDE) which concentrates on helping juvenile drivers become more alert, safer drivers. In January 2010, Judge Hampton brought the "Life of Crime" program to Henderson that centers around the everyday choices made by youth and included law enforcement demonstrations and current inmates describing life behind bars and the consequences of their choices. Prior to being elected, Diana worked as a deputy city attorney for Henderson and had a private family and criminal law practice. While she had an impressive legal career, she would tell you her greatest accomplishments were her two sons, Ian and Sean, whom she loved with all her heart. Her most treasured moments were quiet times at home with her boys. Diana was a free spirit who lived life on her own terms. A beautiful and kind soul, she loved "sparklies" (aka bling), crystals and gemstones, collecting rare coins and being at one with nature. An avid environmentalist and conservationist, she would lecture those who did not recycle about preserving and protecting Mother Earth for future generations. Diana was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Diane Predmore, whom she has been reunited with in Heaven. She is survived by her sons, Ian Hampton and Sean Hampton; former husband, Scott Hampton; uncles, Mike D. Carothers (Nancy) and Dan Carothers (Sherry); aunt, Jill Botts (Fred); cousins, David Carothers (Joan), Chris Carothers (Elisa), Laura Salcedo and Michele Carothers; life-long friends, Allison Copening, Gina Gallus, Jane Mellott, and Harold Mellott (her "Pops"); dear friend, Dr. John "JJ" Pierce; and other cherished family and friends. Celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Las Vegas Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd. Flowers will be accepted at the Springs Preserve box office. Diana thank you for my second chance when I was young and dumb. I am just now finding out about your death and deeply saddened and shocked at the wake of your death and want to express that I appreciate all you had done for me at the time of my stupidity at 18 years old. May you Rest In Peace, all your hard work and dedication will not be forgotten. I am sure the Henderson community that respects that kind of commitment will not forget...My deepest condulences to the family and friends who knew her better than I.

I owe a lot to this women! She gave me a second chance at life. I was 20 years old going down a dark path. I landed myself in trouble with some old bad habits and desperately wanted change. I found out I was going to have a child and I so badly wanted to be there with him and not put him through the continuous cycle that I was brought up in. But it was a slim chance and I was preparing for the worse. I knew if I wasn't able to be there for my sons birth that would be something I wouldn't come back from. My sons due date was a July 28 of 2014 and my sentencing was the 25th of July, I went in there into her court room with my girlfriend fully pregnant ready to give birth any day, shaken and scared for the future. I didn't expect any pity or special treatment because I knew I had messed up and I was just wishing on a miracle, and she was that miracle. I'll never forget her telling me " I don't want to make this impossible for you, I don't want this cycle to continue and have you back here". She gave me a major break on the promise I would do right for my family and that I would bring the baby back for her to see. A few days later I was at the hospital with my girlfriend as we brought my son into this world. Diana gave me a second chance at life, and was a true angel. She still pushes me to be a better person because she took a chance on me and I wouldn't want it to have been in vain. She's a true hero to me and my family and I'm forever grateful. Rip Diana Hampton , thank you for everything.

Until we meet again

I met Judge Hampton over video court in December of 2012. I had never been in trouble before but had been struggling with an addiction after my mother passed away tragically two years prior. Judge Hampton saved my life. I was on a downward spiral but Judge Hampton believed in me. She sentenced me to thirty days in jail with the hopes that I would get clean and sober. She also sentenced me to counseling and drug court. She told me that I had never been in trouble before and she knew I could get through my issues if I wanted it bad enough. At first I was so mad and scared to be sentenced to thirty days in jail. But it was exactly what I needed and she knew that. I later got the chance to stand before her and thank her for saving my life. I also got to show her my diploma from graduating college and license in my field. I'm so grateful that I got that chance. I'll be forever grateful to Judge Hampton for believing in me and giving me the chance to become who I was meant to be! I owe my bright future to her.

I had the great privilege of being Judge Hampton's Primary Clerk for the last 6 years. I admired her as individual who overcame so much. She was funny and blunt. She always made feel needed and integral part of the team. She will be missed.

I first met Diana in Fort Collins Colorado, in the '80s, when she and her friends would come out and see my band. We lost touch when I moved to Las Vegas, but ran into the then Diana Montgomery at a wedding reception for mutual friends. We stayed in touch of and on, and as a resident of Henderson, I was excited and proud of her achievements. She was always striving to achieve her goals, and I know she was proud of her accomplishment s so far, and had high hopes for the future of Henderson and beyond. She will be sorely missed by all. Taken way to soon! Rob Van Horn

I did not know Ms Hampton, but she sounds like an amazing person. And looking at her picture, you can tell she was happy. My sincerest sympathies go out to her sons. I lost my own mom on March 3 and I know the pain they are feeling. God bless.

Although I had no blood ties to her, I always considered Diana to be my cousin. We shared a common thread through my younger sister and her cousin, Michele. I remember her love of horses growing up. We hadn't had much contact since our childhood, but I was lucky enough to get to see her during a small family get together a few years ago. I am very proud of how much she achieved in her short life and will mourn the loss of such a smart, loving soul. I believe she is now with her mother, my Aunt Diane, in Heaven where she is watching over her family. I will never forget you Diana. With love, Karen. <3
