Jane Wisdom

JANE WISDOM Jane Wisdom, 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Pahrump, July 5, 2010. She was born and raised in Hagertown, Md., and attended the University of Maryland. Jane originally moved to Las Vegas in 1962, where she worked in room reservations, and eventually became room reservation manager at various hotels on the Strip. Jane was elected to two terms in the Nevada State Assembly in 1986, and was unsuccessful in her bid to unseat Barbara Vucanovich in the U.S. Congress in 1990. Retiring from politics, Jane worked for the Clark County Assessors Office until 2002. Having moved to Pahrump in 1997, Jane then retired there, staying active in the state Democratic Party. She continued serving her community after being elected to the City Council and by assisting in getting the county line between Clark and Nye Counties moved to benefit the residents who lived close to the boundary. Jane was active in her church, Saved By Grace Lutheran Church, where she served as chairman in various committees, most recently having served on the building committee and helping to oversee construction of the new church building. Jane was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Viola and Charles Mahovlic. She is survived by her son, Charles Wisdom and his wife, Karen; and three granddaughters, Lauren, Natalie and Amanda Wisdom. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 18, at Saved By Grace Lutheran Church, 6341 S. Hawkins Way, in Pahrump. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saved By Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Garden Fund.
