I only recently met Fr. Sullivan in the past two years when he married my son and then later baptized my grandson. During the baptism my grandson was making such a fuss and no one could comfort him. Fr. Sullivan took him in his arms and almost instantly the baby stopped crying. At both of these ceremonies, he made his sermons so personal for the family. I know Fr. John will be missed as he was loved by so many. May he rest in Peace.

Fr. John Sullivan loved Our Lord Jesus Christ and devoted his entire life to the Church's mission of Reconciliation. He loved so much and there was so much of him to love. He made the decision to give his life to Christ as an Atonement Friar in Garrison New York and in the missions of Japan. After serving in many capacities he felt the call to the Priesthood and completed his Theological Studies for Pastoral Ministry at Pope John XXIII National Seminary in Weston Mass/. and was ordained by Bishop Francis J. Mugavero, DD, MSW for the Brooklyn Diocese.
He served in pastoral ministry and then transferred to the the Diocese
of Reno, Nevada which was then split into another diocese Called Las Vegas. He was very caring of the people entrusted to his care and always a gentle, loving and wise shepherd. He headed the Marriage Tibunal, and also served as Pastor of a bilingual parish.
I have known Father John since 1974 and I can testify that he always
gave his best in everything he did. He had a wonderful sense of
humor and a a keen mind and an Irish wit which never failed to lift
my spirit when I spent time with him. Thursday I will attend his burial at St. John's Cemetery in New York to say my prayers of farewell.
I thank God for Fr. John's friendship and compassion when I had a
family tragedy and lost my youngest sister. I will never forget how
he supported me in and my family in our loss and pain. May the Lord
bless him and keep him; may the Lord let the light of His countenance shine upon him, and may the Lord of Life and Resurrection welcome Fr. John with these words: "..Well done, good and faithful servant, enter the kingdom prepared for you: when I was hungry you fed me, when I was naked you clothed me, when I was thirsty you gave me to drink....for as often as you did it for the least
you did it for me..."
Rest in peace Fr. John, your suffering is over, you reward awaits you !

I had the pleasure of knowing Fr. Sullivan from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. I always had a smile on my face when I would see that it was he, saying the mass. How I enjoyed his sweet jokes at the end of each mass, leaving me with that smile! He will be sadly missed. My sympathy to his family and friends.

Hi Fr. Sullivan We remember when you baptized our Tyrone on Oct. 7, 1995 Sat. at St. Michaels Church in Stead, NV and you did a splendid job. We remember you at Salt Lake City and when you lost your way to our house to bless it. We remember you saying you were younger too. God Bless you in heaven and our very deep sympathy to all the Sullivan Family. Love Dave, Tyrone and Jenny Davis (Macchiaverna).

Fr. John was so kind and possessed such a dry sense of humor. It was a pleasure having dinner on occasion with him in the past couple of years. I met him when he was a priest a Our Lady Of Las Vegas. He baptized one of my daughters and I was honored to have remained an acquaitance all of these years. He will be truly missed. May he be in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

My sinceerest sympathies to Michael and the entire Sullivan Family for the loss of your beloved brother and relative! We traveled together to California and had a wonderful time visiting missions and brother priests in Monterey. He always liked our Florida citrus. I will miss him. He had a keen intellect and a wonderful dry sense of humor. He helped many people including his brother priests. He was a friend to us. God bless him and you!

My family had the honor of knowing Father Sullivan while members of St. Anne's Parish and was privileged to have had him preside over our youngest son's First Communion. He was a strong, wonderful priest and showed great kindness to the children. We have thought about him many times over the years and now offer our prayers, thoughts, and love to him and his family.

My Mass today was celebrated in memory of my dear brother-priest, Fr. John Andrew Sullivan as he joins all of our relatives and friends enjoying eternal life. May he rejoice, praising God, Our Father, with all the saints and angels in heaven. Like Fr. Joe Anthony, I too, remember the meals we shared and the times we spent together here on earth. Fr. John was a humble, kind, and unpretentious priest.

Dear Family & Friends:
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of great loss over Johns death. I first met Fr. John when he replaced me after my ordination to the priesthood at St. Alberts parish in Reno in May, 1980. Through the years we had many visits, meals and needless to say, "many a laugh." He will be missed. I will offer my Sunday Mass here at the VA Medical Center for his intention, as the Irish say: "May he rest in roses."
In Christ
Fr. Joe Anthony
