I would like to say something about Dr Innes, he was working here in Jacksonville FL back in 1980, this man saved my sons life. We were told that we needed to make funeral arrangements for our 6 week old son who had a heart condition. Dr. Innes was a man who did not give false hope. When the surgery was over Dr. Innes came and sat with all of our family and explained in detail what he did, I started crying and saying that I owed him my life as he saved my son. His words were that he was doing what God gave him the gift to do. Thanks to Dr Innes my son is now 37 years old and has been in perfect health. I have so much respect for Dr. Innes and I want to tell you how saddened I was to hear of his passing. Thank you to his family for sharing him with all of those whose lives he has touched.

I just found out about this today, and was very saddened to hear of Dr. Innes' passing. I was one of his medical students at Mercer University from 2008-2012, and he is one of the main reasons I became interested in doing surgery. His lectures totally enthralled me, and I was hooked. I remember sitting with him after our group sessions, and getting him to tell me stories from his early days in heart surgery. He personally counseled me and even helped me learn to suture. He also provided excellent guidance on choosing a residency program. Because of the time he took laying the ground work, and encouraging me to pursue my dream, I am now finished with residency and am a practicing general surgeon. In fact, the reasons I looked him up was to call him and update him on my career outcome. I will miss our conversations after class greatly. My sincere condolences to his entire family and friends for their loss.

Worked for him at Norfolk General Hospital when he came to Norfolk in 1967(aka Norfolk Area Medical Center Authotity). He was a pioneer in children's open heart surgery. Great guy! So many good memories.

I am saddened by the loss of Bruce. He was a wonderful man and he was so passionate about pediatric heart surgery. Especially we talked of a cousin of mine from Culloden Ga. Dr Alfred Blaylock. I will keep him in my heart and send sympathy to his family!

Saddened to hear of this. Bruce was a consummate physician, an intellectual who had both humanity and a great sense of humor. I have longed missed his company. My regards to all his friends and family for their loss.

I had the honor of working for Dr Innes as his clerkship coordinator with the Department of Surgery for Mercer School of Medicine for 5 years. He was a great man and a big part of why I went back to school to become an RN. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time. He will be truly missed.

He operated on my husband in 1983 and was fabulous with us both. Had a great bed side manner and called them like he saw them. Rest in Peace and God bless all.
