Charles Evans Obituary

Charles Tillman Evans
May 22, 1931 - December 2, 2018
Perry, Georgia- Charles Tillman Evans, 87, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Wellington Regional Medical Center in Wellington, Florida. The family will visit with friends on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Perry United Methodist Church.
Born to the late Pauline and Charles Evans at home on Chicken Road in Hawkinsville, Georgia, Charles grew up there, and was a graduate of Cochran High School, and the former Crandall Business College in Macon. Charles was a proud member of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War in 1952 and 1953. He remained a member of the United States Army Reserve for more than 20 years.
Charles first came to Perry in 1962 with his first wife and their young family, and over the years was active in the Perry United Methodist Church, and The Westfield Schools where he and other students' dads developed the football stadium and other sports facilities. The family moved to Florida in 1977, where Charles continued his career in heavy highway construction. After his retirement in 1996, Charles later returned to Perry in 2007 with the marriage to his beloved second wife, Charlotte Washington Evans. Until Charlotte's death in 2016, they traveled with friends to countries all over the world, and they especially enjoyed vacationing in Positano, Italy. They were active in the Perry United Methodist Church, including the In His Service (IHS) Sunday School Class, and their monthly Supper Club with close friends. In addition to travel, Charles and Charlotte greatly enjoyed sport fishing especially in Costa Rica and the backwaters of Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande in Florida. Charles was a lifelong fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs.
Left to deeply cherish the memories of Charles are his children Susan Evans of Estero, Florida; Jeffrey Charles Evans of Atlanta; Craig Tillman Evans (Rachel) of Wellington, Florida; David Washington (Diana) of Warner Robins; Philip Washington (Pam) of Perry; and Richard Washington (Sarah) of Parker, Colorado; his grandchildren Samuel Charles Evans; Dustin Washington (Siera); and Dannon Washington; his brothers Russell Evans (Lavonia) of Hawkinsville; and Robert Evans (Amelia) of Cochran; his sister-in-law Patricia Blackstock (Hoyt) of Boise, Idaho; first wife Joyce Miner (Eric) of Punta Gorda, Florida; nieces and nephews; and many treasured friends in Georgia and Florida.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Susan, Jeff and Craig...I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. As I read his obituary, I could see so many of our dads -- and moms, too -- building our school not just with their hands, but with their hearts. You all are in my thoughts and prayers....

Charles was always a close family friend. I grew up with his kids and we all attended the same school and lived only a block away. After the passing of my dad, we couldn't have asked for a better addition to our family than Charles when he married my mom. They truly loved each other and I was very thankful for mom to be so happy. I will miss him and be forever grateful for his friendship and his undying love for my mom.
