In trying to find out info on the man that took me on my first airplane ride (in a crop duster) when I was eleven years old, I learned it was Mr. Red Curtis. I am so angry with myself because it was something I wanted to do many years, but seemed to never get the chance. On a recent cycle ride down to Cochran, I was the sign pointing to the airport. I decided this is the best time to do what I had wanted so long. Sadly and unfortunately, I was twelve years too late. I wanted to tell him that I did in fact get my flying ticket later in life, but never forgot about him, wondering what he might be doing at the time. I have shared the story of Mr. Red Curtis landing his plane on the county road in front of my house at that early age. He whipped his tail drawer around in my yard, jumped out, and asked if I had a water hose. I said I did and he asked to use it. I quickly got it for him to add water to his tank. This happened several times during the couple or so days he was spraying cotton. On his last day, he asked if I wanted to go for a ride. I was ecstatic at this opportunity. Mom said okay, and off he and I went (along with my little bratty brother). I will never forget the feeling I had when the plane rotated off the highway. I was amazed at the number of small ponds beneath us, and cows running for their lives it seemed as we flew over them. After landing, I asked he about the age I could learn to fly. He told me and finally I got my license twenty-four years later. I will never forget this man. At this late date, I want you to know I was sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great man and I feel sure I would have never gotten my license had it not been for Mr. Red Curtis. Now, my heart washes my eyes when I think of him. Hopefully I will get to meet Allen just to see him and shake his hand one of these days. Gods Speed to You All.

Alan, Freddie and families,
Prayers lifted for all of you during this time. I hated to hear of the passing of Mr. Red. I admired him and he taught me a great deal not only in work ethic, but in how to live life in general. I'll miss him and always respect the wonderful man that he was. You guys were very fortunate to have him as a dad. Rejoice in knowing that he and Mrs. Helen celebrated their reunion in Heaven!

What rejoicing in heaven. Another member in the choir. Mr. Red taught my Dad how to fly and me how a Christian lives their life. Many a fond memory of he and Mrs. Helen.
