W. Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mathis Funeral Home - Cochran on Mar. 18, 2026.
Cochran - W. Jack Johnson, age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at his residence. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 6:00P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Mathis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Jack lived most of his life in Bleckley County. He was the son of the late Walter Johnson and Florence Mullis Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Irene Knighton Johnson; his siblings Montine Birdsong, Johnny Johnson and Judy Teston.

In 1992, Jack retired from Robins Air Force Base after a distinguished civilian career during which he received numerous awards for his service. A dedicated supporter of athletics, he was a loyal member of the Middle Georgia College Diamond Club for over three decades and accompanied the team on several trips to Grand Junction, Colorado. Jack had a passion for golf, softball, baseball, and music. His greatest joy came from the love he shared with his family.

As a child, Jack attended Little Bethel Freewill Baptist Church and later became an active member of Southside Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. In his later years, he worshipped at Lakeview Baptist Church alongside his wife.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jimmie Faye Johnson; daughters Lesa (Blake) Bergh, Lynne (Bob) Raley, and Cindy (Tim) Powell-all of Cochran-and Jimmie Faye's son Eric (Connie) Trice of Clarksville, Georgia. He also leaves behind grandchildren Amber (Kyle) Collins; Ansley (Lonnie) Giddens; Cole (Lauren M.) Raley; Caley (Tyler) Allen; Elizabeth Powell; Henley Powell; Brandon (Christie) Bergh; and J.C. (Emily) Bergh; as well as nine great-grandchildren. Jack is also survived by his sisters Rachel (Rev. Russell) Horne and Lynette Holmes; sister-in-law Gloria Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Remarkable Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during this season of his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gideons International.

The family is at 180 S. Eighth Street.
