Iris Lord Obituary

Iris Stephens Lord -MILLEDGEVILLE - Iris Stephens Lord, age 85 died Tuesday at her home in Toomsboro, Georgia. Services will be held at 10A.M. Friday at the Toomsboro Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Grinsted officiating, burial will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. -Iris was born in Meeks, Georgia where she spent most of her childhood and later moved to Milledgeville to live with her family Johnnie and Artis Stephens. She completed Peabody High School and attended Georgia State College for Women. She married H.C. "Babe" Lord of Toomsboro, on December 8, 1941 and they owned and operated Lord Lumber Company until his death. Iris continued to work until April of this year. She was an active member of Toomsboro Baptist Church. Iris will be remembered for her love of God, and her family and to always displaying her generous spirit with an innate ability to encourage and uplift others. -She is survived by one son John H. Lord and his wife Amelia Drake Lord of Calhoun, her daughter Carol Lord Bleser and her husband Philip B. Bleser, four grandchildren, Jonathan Lord, Claire Lord, Adam Chandler and Brigette Bleser and her faithful dog Sawyer. - Friends who wish may make contributions to the American Cancer Society. -The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 until 8:30 P.M. at Moores Funeral Home. -Visit www.mooresfuneralhome.com to express tributes.

I'm the city clerk for Toomsboro. I wore a red skirt w/white poka dots to work one day and she told me how much she loved it. When I wear it, I think about her. Ms. Iris was a very sweet and considerate lady. I know she will be deeply missed by her family and community.
