Mallory Atkinson Obituary

Mallory "Cook" Atkinson IV
April 19, 1991 - November 22, 2021
Nashville, Tennessee - Mallory "Cook" Atkinson IV, formerly of Macon, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord from natural causes on Monday, November 22nd, 2021 at his home in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 30 years old. He is survived by his parents, Mary Michael and Mal Atkinson; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Betsy Atkinson; his nieces and nephew; Evelyn, Clementine, and Gardner Atkinson; his grandparents; Mary and Kerry Kelly; his great-uncle, Chris Kelly; his aunts and uncles; Katy and Neil Weaver, Raegan and Cobb Atkinson, and Maysie and Ira Patrick; and several adoring cousins.
Cook was a member of Howard High School's first graduating class. Growing up, he enjoyed participating in Boy Scouts and Young Life Macon and keeping the stats for the Howard baseball team. After a one-year high school "victory lap" at Palm Beach Atlantic University, Cook enjoyed a wide range of employment opportunities, bringing his gentle, friendly spirit to his many co-workers. Some of his happiest memories during these years were trips "over the bay" and to New Smyrna Beach and lunches at Nu-Way and Fincher's BBQ.
Cook was beloved by so many people for his kindness, compassion, deep faith, and resilience. His health issues presented many challenges, but Cook still chose to be a beautiful person and was always quick to smile and laugh. He was unfailingly courteous, generous, and accepting towards others, making everyone feel welcome. He had an especially big heart for children and used his vacation time from work to volunteer at Vineville Methodist's Vacation Bible School.
His recent stay at Honey Lake Clinic in Greenville, Florida, was a transformative experience for him, leading him to relocate to Nashville and join Connect Church in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. The love and support of his "Nashville Mom," Cathy Cowan, and the fellowship he found at his church were some of the many reasons Cook had found happiness in this new chapter of his life.
Family and friends are invited to drop by and Celebrate Cook's Life on Sunday, November 28th, 2021 between 5:00 and 7:00PM, at the home of Betsy and Steve Slocumb, 728 Dunblane Drive, Macon, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Cook's memory may be made to Honey Lake Clinic or Connect Church.
To paraphrase Billy Graham: "You may have read or heard that Cook Atkinson is dead. Don't you believe a word of it. He is more alive than he was before. He has just changed his address. He has gone into the presence of God."

Rarely do you meet someone who is good to the core, but Cook Atkinson was. As his principal, I never saw him without a big smile on his face, and he always had a hug for me. To say Cook was special is an understatement. His presence would light up any room. He treated everyone the same, and never said an unkind word. Cook was always happy. Better yet, he made others happy. His sweet spirit will be missed by many, especially by me. Love you, Cook.

Our deepest condolences to Cook's family. I came to know Cook thru his Grandpa Kerry who would update me on his health. Even though we have never met him yet we felt the loss. We cannot even imagine what the family is going thru. In our religion we believe that the Soul is eternal we come and go and as the Bible says "Ashes to ashes...." Cook is no doubt at a better place. Neera and I would say a special prayer for the departed soul at our temple this evening. God Bless
