Nancy Killen Obituary

Sister Nancy Killen -MACON - Sister Nancy Killen went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 29, 2007 in Macon, GA. She passed in The Macon Medical Center and continued her unconditional giving by giving the gift of life through organ donation. -Nancy was born in Jacksonville, FL on November 6, 1946. As a teenager she lived in Cleveland, OH with her parents, Bessie (preceded in death) and Arthur Andrews. Subsequently she lived in Columbia, MS and then moved to Macon in 1982, where she made her home until passing. In 1982, Nancy joined Joycliff United Methodist until her marriage. In 1994 Nancy Killen joined Greater Overcoming Church under the leadership of Bishop Cotton. Having always been a worker for the Lord, Nancy got busy and was appointed the church photographer. She was known for being inconspicuous and grasping the moment with a beautiful photo. Nancy taught Sunday School nearly twenty years. She eventually started "In God Big Move Store", an in house church store, with dreams of it being the church's bookstore of the future Church. -Nancy fulfilled a lifetime dream of becoming a teacher. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Wesleyan College. In 1990, she began her career at Jessie Rice Elementary School as a 5th grade teacher. Subsequently, she taught 4th grade and while teaching 4th grade she completed her Master's of Education from Mercer University. Beginning this school year, Nancy became a 2nd grade teacher. She was always mothering to her students and always used her God-given ability and resources to prepare them. Nancy was involved with several associations and special projects. She was a member of Professional Association of Georgia Educators and the National Association of Educators. At Church, Nancy compiled and produced a cookbook from recipes of her fellow church members. Sister Killen had begun an oral history project at Greater Overcoming to have the church's legacy in written form for generations and generations to share. Nancy was a member of the Overcoming Newsletter Staff. -In November 2001, Nancy was titled 'Grandparent' with the birth of Nathan. In 2003, she was blessed with a second grandchild, Nevan. Nancy was so proud of her grandchildren and contributed significantly and unselfishly to their upbringing. They were often seen with her at the mall, preparing the church store, and praising the Lord during services, just to name a few things. Nancy was dedicated to the Lord and her church; a gracious Mother to ALL who came in contact with her. Her work was most appreciated and without a doubt, she will truly be missed. -She is survived by her loving, supportive husband, Michael Killen; her daughter, Apryl Rivers of Atlanta; two grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters, a host of Aunts and Uncles, a host of in-laws, her Jessie Rice School family and her Greater Overcoming Church family. -A wake will be held on December 4th from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at Bentley and Sons Funeral Home on Montpelier Avenue in Macon, GA. Funeral services will occur the following day on December 5th at 2P.M. at Greater Overcoming Church at 1708 Third Street. Bishop John L. Cotton will officiate. -Arrangements have been tenderly attended to by Bentley and Sons Funeral Home. Nancy Killen

Mrs. Killen has always held a special place in my heart. She place a spark in my heart that ignited a slow burn that sustained me for several years until I was able to find another person with the love of God that she had. Without her presence in my life and her support of my mother obtaining her GED there is no telling where my life would have gone. She was a remarkable women. She was my 4th grade teacher and the very first person in my life outside of my family to make me feel that as an individual I was special and had a purpose and could give to the world.

How do you say goodbye to someone so special? How do you fill the void of a presence so strong? How do you close your eyes and not remember a smile so bright? How do you forget words spoken ever so kindly? WE DO NOT! We just anticipate the reunion, that is sure to come.
Love to the family ...Val

Many times the effects of someone's work is unnoticed or not completed until they pass. Then others grasp the reality and begin to apply what she left behind to their lives.
