Naples, Florida - Raymond Bruce Whitaker, 74, of Macon, GA passed away on December 6, 2023 in Naples, FL.
Bruce was born in Macon, GA on July 24, 1949 to Ray and Mary Whitaker. He graduated from the University of Georgia and was a huge Bulldog fan and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He married Suzann Newberry in 1974 and began their family. Bruce loved camping and spending time in the Georgia Mountains and his dog Maggie.
Bruce is survived by his children Bobby Whitaker, Andy (Irene) Whitaker and Julie (Chad) Whitaker Summer, his Grandsons Andrew, William and Christopher Whitaker and his Granddaughters Carrabelle and Savannah Summer and his sister Susan Whitaker Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Suzann and his daughter-in-law Claire Whitaker.
Bruce's family would like to offer a special thank you to Kelsey, his care manager and Jill and Sandra at Naples Green who took special care of him.
In honor of Bruce's wishes, he will be cremated and his family will have a private service returning him to the Georgia Mountains he loved.

Saddened to hear of your loss , camped many of weekend with Bruce & Boy Scouts troop, he was a great leader to a lot of young boys & a excellent outdoors cook. Even after the troop´s closure , he & I & a couple more backpacks the Ga AT & the PMT trails

I am so saddened by the passing of my old friend. We shared many good times together during our teenage years. My mother and father were fond of Bruce . I specifically remember him coming to see them when he returned from basic training at Parris Island . Rest in peace , old friend .
