Ruby Johnson Obituary

Ruby Hanson Johnson
January 5, 1925 - July 15, 2021
Macon, Georgia - Ruby Lee Hanson Johnson, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 15, 2021, after a brief illness.
Ruby was born in North Georgia on Banning Road on January 5, 1925, to the late Robert Richard Hanson and Mabel Laura Daughtry Hanson. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery, 3969 Mercer University Boulevard, Macon, Georgia 31204. The family will greet friends and family on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was predeceased by her husband, Paul Johnson and her son, Larry Johnson; her brothers; Lemuel Hanson, G W Hanson, Frank Hanson, William "Bill" Hanson, and Robert Hanson (her twin); her sisters; Princess Davis, Marie Chafin, Annie Lou Grimsley, Corine Johnston, Ethel Amerson, and Sylvia Rae. She is survived by her sons; Bobby (Nancy) Johnson of Melbourne, Australia, and Richard (Linda) Johnson of Macon, Georgia; her grandchildren; Dave (Leisa) Forman, Kate (Jonathan) Mackie, Todd Johnson, and Richard Riley; nine great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her faithful companion, her robot puppy.
Ruby worked for the City of Macon until her retirement. She had varied interests that came together to make her the wonderful lady she was. During the 1960-1970 timeframe, her family was involved in racing dirt tracks around Middle Georgia. Ruby was one of the drivers. She had no problem pushing her opponents into the fence and winning the race. From 1967 – 1973, she had a by-line with the Jones County News writing, "Action on the Spot," featuring highlights and race results of the weekly stock car races. Another interest she had was quick draw. She loved it. On a lazy Sunday afternoon, she could be found practicing her quick draw preparing for competitions.
Her passion was writing, and she was an active author for many years. Ruby published two children's books, "Our Neighborhood" and "Rerun's World". Both books were placed in the Macon-Bibb County School System as part of the Fourth-Grade curriculum. Other published works include "To Be" and "Time". In 2007, she published "Banning Road" her first novel.
Her love for her family out shined everything else in her life. When her husband died so young, she became the head of her family. Her three boys knew where they stood with her. They and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her heart; Granny Ru was always smiling and happy. The love she had for her siblings was never ending. She enjoyed all the time she spent with them traveling and taking photos of old houses and barns; she always had paper and a pen to jot down notes. She also loved every one of her nieces and nephews. She had a positive attitude and always felt "like a million-dollar baby".
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Aunt Ruby knew me before I was born. She and my Mother were
very close friends since they were young Mother's. My brother, sister and I spent a lot of our childhood at her home. She always said she was our Aunt Ruby. I actually believed she really was my Aunt until I was old enough to know better. She was in and out of my life for so many years, even after my Mother died. I moved out of state and lost touch with her years ago. She was always in my heart, and I still to this day tell her stories that she shared with me and remember that beautiful smile of hers as we laughed together. She was a wonderful Canasta card player, and we played many a game together with my Mom. She was the most lively, spirited, entertaining individual I have ever known. I love you Aunt Ruby, and I know you and Mom are reunited in heaven, and probably playing a game of Canasta.

I knew Ms Ruby as a child. I frequently stayed with "Aunt Evelyn" and Uncle Robert" while my father was hospitalized. I remember Thanksgiving of 1957 all the family was there on Winship St. Ms Ruby was definitely a presence I noticed. What a LIFE!!! My condolences to all her family. So glad I met her.
