Gerhard Stamn Obituary
April 1, 1954 - February 26, 2026
MOUNT VERNON / VERONA – Gerhard "Grunt" Stamn earned his wings on Thursday, February 26, 2026. He was born on April 1 (yup, April Fool's Day) in 1954 to Dolores and Garfield Stamn. Grunt grew up on the Stamn farm and was a 1972 graduate of Mount Horeb High School. He was a loyal employee of Cleary Buildings in Verona for 35-plus years before his well-earned retirement.
Grunt loved throttle wide-open snowmobiling and playing softball with his buddies in the Mount Vernon Park Tournament over Labor Day weekend. He and his brother, Greg, were avid bowlers and won many team trophies together. Grunt was a member of the Deer Creek Sportsman's Club and was very passionate about fishing and deer hunting, and spent many waking hours by the local creeks.
A faithful Badgers and Packers fan especially when they won on his parley card bet; he loved doing the shake of the day, and playing his favorite slot machines. Grunt's brothers are Bruce (Vickie), Greg and Rick (Pam); nephews, Aaron, Kyle, Cory and Christopher; great-niece, Avery; and great-nephews, Rylan, Jackson, Cooper, Carter and Brycen.
Even though time began taking away his ability to speak clearly, his life-long friendships and memories with his friends meant everything to him. Thank you to those who continued to visit him throughout his journey. A very very special thank you to Sylvan Memory Care and Brighton Hospice. You also became his family and we can never ever thank you enough for your compassionate care.
Our Grunt has gone to a place where the fishing is always good, the beer is always cold, and the stories are never questioned.
Grunt's Celebration of Life gathering will be held at MOUNT VERNON PARK, 1689 Washington St., Mount Vernon, beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026. A buffet will be catered by Danette Dahlk and refreshments will be provided. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
