James W. Berkner

May 17, 1936 - July 10, 2025

VERONA - James (Jim) W. Berkner, age 89, died on Thursday, July 10, 2025. He was born on May 17, 1936 the son of Robert and Cecelia (Madden) Berkner. Jim grew up in Mahnomen, Minn., and then entered into the US Air Force. Following his discharge, he continued his education at the University of Minnesota. On August 25, 1962, he and Sharon Maloney married in Rochester, Minn. In 1969, Jim and Sharon moved to Verona, Wis., where they raised their family.

Jim is survived by his bride Sharon; children Karen Berkner, Mark (Amy) Berkner, Laura Berkner (Chris Scheel), and Maureen (Todd) Boyt; grandchildren, Casey and Nick Murphy, Reilly and Caiden Boyt, Cecelia DeLay and Elsa Berkner, Tyler and Amanda Scheel. He is further survived by his sister Marian (Frank) Verlot; brother Tom (Mary) Berkner; sister-in-law Donna Berkner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Robert, George, and Mardi Berkner.

Inurnment will be in the St. William's Cemetery, Paoli, Wis. He was just on the edge of wonderful.
