Worked with Joe for many years at DDHS. Was very sad when he passed. He gave me a Coffee cup that has a wavy music staff with three eighth notes with men inside the notes where middle C would be, and it says "Well men, it looks like we´re `hopelessly lost at C´. I still have it. I will never forget Joe...wonderful man and teacher.

Having Joe visit Mystery to Me on Monroe Street was always a reminder as to why having an independent bookstore is important. We'll miss his stories and his joy for life. I did attempt to send a card your way but it came back to me. All of us at the store send our deepest sympathy. He was so wonderfully genuine and a true joy to be around. I also saw Joe at Sports Med - it was fun to see him out of 'my' context (the bookstore)! I feel like l know Joe's family -- so many great stories. He was so proud! My heart goes out to all of Joe's family.

You are missed already. I miss our talks
about baseball (mainly about the Cubs) and your teaching me so much about all
music, especially jazz. Thanks for the
vivid memories.

It's been a beautiful ride, Joe. Thanks for all the moments, especially the 50 years of music making. Miss our chats at the gym.
