Michael Rounds Obituary
December 17, 1948 - February 21, 2025
Michael James Rounds, 76, passed away peacefully at home in Madison, Wis., on February 21, 2025, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on December 17, 1948, Michael was the second of five children to Warren and Dorothy Rounds. He grew up in the Orton Park neighborhood, where he spent his childhood fishing, playing baseball, and enjoying capture the flag with friends who remained close throughout his life. He graduated from Madison Central High School before serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. After his service, he dedicated over 30 years to working for the City of Madison.
Michael married Sharon Mulcahy, and together they shared 47 years of marriage. They raised two children, Austin and Ashley, and he took great pride in supporting them at their many sporting events. An accomplished athlete himself, Michael was a city champion in both swimming and hurdles and played city league softball and touch football alongside lifelong friends for years.
Perhaps his greatest joy was spending time up north, where he loved camping and fishing and playing cards with family and friends, creating countless cherished memories. Michael's presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; children, Austin (Ashley) and Ashley (Billy); grandchildren, Riley, Reece, Cedar, Rory, and Weston; and siblings, Tom (Nancy), Bob (Kathy), Susan (Jim), and Jim (Kelly). He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 1 to 5 p.m. at The East Side Club, 3735 Monona Dr., Madison.
