MADISON - Robert A. Herbsleb, age 86, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at The Legacy of Deforest.
He was born on February 13, 1938, in Rockford, IL, the son of Harold and Mary Herbsleb. He married Barbara Ann Stroede on October 21, 1961, in Loves Park, IL.
He served in the U.S. Navy from August 20, 1957 to August 18, 1961. Robert was Honorably Discharged on August, 19, 1963. He was employed by the University of Wisconsin Madison Space Science and Engineering Center for over 30 years. Robert received Emeritus status July 20, 2001. He retired from SSEC on August 3, 2001. Robert enjoyed camping, visiting waterfalls, lighthouses, and mills with his wife Barbara.
Robert is survived by his sisters: Sharon Warren, Martha Downing; and brother, John (Rosemary) Herbsleb. He is also survived by his children: Robert (Susan) Boen, Susan (Eric) Poole, Mark (Jill) Herbsleb, and Timothy (Nicolle) Herbsleb; grandchildren: Erica, Cassidy (Evan), Rebecca (Greg), Abby, Kennedy, Mark, Katlin (Garrett), and Kelsey (Brant); great-grandchildren: Juniper, Bexley, Benson, Veda, Landen, Olivia, Lucia, Colton, and Harper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Herbsleb.
There will be private family services and burial.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Legacy of Deforest and Heartland Hospice for their care.
