William Douglas Baures

June 9, 1942 - October 20, 2024

William Douglas "Bill" Baures, age 82, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Meriter Hospital, surrounded by family. Bill was born June 9, 1942, in Wyalusing Twp., Grant County, Wis., to Charles A. Baures and Beryl E. Miller. He married Illene M. Stark on April 23, 1966, in Mt Hope, Grant, Wis. They had 58 wonderful years together.

Bill worked for Ohio Chemical (Ohmeda) company for 31 years, mostly in systems and development, five years as a traveling consultant, and six years for Heating and Cooling. He retired in August 2006. Bill served in the US Army Reserve as well.

He enjoyed golf, softball, and fishing. He valued an annual fishing trip, mostly with the same six people. Bill was always helping someone, moving, cleaning, and especially with his favorite toy, a chain saw, to cut down trees or clean up after a storm.

Bill joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in July 1974 and was later sealed in the Mesa, Ariz. temple. He had many callings and leadership positions. He was Bishop of Madison 2nd Ward for five years. Bill and Illene served a 20 month mission in the Halifax Canada Temple, and as temple workers in the Chicago Temple.

Bill is survived by his wife, Illene; two sons, Wayne (Gayle) Baures, Kirk (Flor) Baures; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. His brothers, Dennis "Ducky" Baures (friend, Linda Ready), Vialis Baures; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beryl.

There will be a celebration of life in June.

The family would like to thank the doctors and especially the nursing staff at the Meriter Hospital.
