My deepest condolences to Lagbara´s family and friends for this tragic loss.
I worked with Lagbara for almost 10 years, and we stayed in touch after I retired. She was always friendly and cheerful, but not in a goody-two-shoes, rah-rah way. "Nice" is lovely but Lagbara was even better: she was kind, true and 100% real. Honest to a fault, she spoke the truth without ever being mean-spirited.
She had a wicked sense of humor (see holiday party white elephant gifts-ahem). She must have had an occasional bad day, but I always got the impression she saw life as a hilarious, absurd soap opera. Her fun personality and irreverent point of view were irresistible-everyone wanted to sit next to her at meetings, to get her take on a particular TV show, to ask if she´d read a certain book. She was simply magnificent.
Lagbara was and is unforgettable. Wherever you are, L, I hope you have great wi-fi and an endless rotation of juicy shows to watch. I miss you.

My oldest and dearest friend. I've known her for 34 years. I'm not supposed to talk directly to her now since she started her journey. To anyone reading this. I want you to know, she will not be forgotten. I will tell her story. We will celebrate the memories. Many people were touched by her grace and tenacity. She was a true friend. She was, and is my family. She is my heart and my story. I will sing for her. I will dance for her. I will drink for her. I will live in honor of her. I will honor everything she gave, and continues, to give. I will tell her story... .. . .. ... I will talk about kids of color growing up in Oregon. I will tell others about our nights drinking, our conversations thinking. She will be remembered!

May the tears flow
May the memories be shared
May the stories be told
May the laughter ring out
And above all
May the journey of healing our hearts begin.
To my dear friend who taught me how to make a mean Americano, who introduced me to Peanut Butter whiskey (Screwball ONLY) who supplied my husband with "the best" jerky and who always knew what the best shows to watch were...I miss you and hope your next adventure is as awesome as you.
