Aletha Paradis Obituary

1923-2014

FARMINGTON - Aletha Marie Paradis, 90, of Farmington, passed away late Saturday evening, Feb. 8, 2014, at Pinewood Terrace with her family by her side. She was born April 29, 1923, in Farmington, a daughter of Arthur W. and Minnie (Webber) Porter, and received her education in New Sharon schools. Aletha was a veteran of the Army, serving from Sept. 12, 1944, to June 30, 1946, which was something that she was quite proud of.

On April 19, 1947, she married William A. Paradis in Farmington. He passed Oct. 1, 2013. Mrs. Paradis was employed for several years by Farmington Shoe Co., where she worked along side her husband and her sisters, Althea, Ina, Glenna and Harriet. She later worked at Emery's Fashion in downtown Farmington prior to her retirement. She was an active communicant of St. Joseph's Church and served on the Altar Guild for many years.

Aletha enjoyed going to barn dances, cooking, gardening, bowling, sewing, knitting and crocheted numerous afghans for her family. She hosted many picnics and barbecues for family and friends.

She is survived by her children, William and his wife, Mary, of Farmington, Nadine Demillo and her husband, Nick, of Jay, and Nancy Matson and her husband, Rick, of Farmington; two grandsons, Andrew Paradis and his wife, Tia, and Matthew Paradis; seven great-grandchildren, Bennett, Addison, Abriel, Aiden, Carter, Mahlon and Terra; and a brother, Arthur Porter Jr., of Farmington Falls. She was predeceased by an infant daughter and her siblings, Keith, Arnold, Freddie, Earsel, Ina, Glenna, Lora, Harriet and Althea.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Pinewood Terrace for the loving care that both Aletha and Bill received.

Condolences, tributes and a memorial video may be shared on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church, Middle Street, Farmington, followed by a comfort meal at the parish hall. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road. Interment with military honors will be held in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Farmington. The family suggests that those who desire consider memorial gifts in Aletha's memory to St. Joseph's Church, Middle Street, Farmington.
