Frank Pitcher Obituary

WAYNE -- Frank E. Pitcher, "Pappy," 79, of Wayne, formerly of Glastonbury, Conn., passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at his home in Wayne.

Frank was born on Sept. 13, 1929, in Rockville Centre, Long Island, N.Y., the son of Francis W. and Margaret (Dodd) Pitcher and grew up in Freeport, Long Island. He attended Freeport High School, where he was president and valedictorian of his high school class, captain of the basketball team and was chosen as All-Long Island in basketball.

Frank attended Cornell University, where he was a member of Psi Upsilon fraternity and played varsity basketball. Upon completing his undergraduate studies, Frank enlisted in the Navy, where he served his country for four years as a lieutenant after graduating from officer candidate school in Newport, R.I. After his enlistment, Frank returned to Cornell School of Law and received his doctorate of law in 1958.

He began his legal career with Sprague & Stern Attorneys at Law in Long Island. In the 1960s, Frank kept two thoroughbred race horses at Belmont stables and treated his family and friends to an exciting run in their lives. He started his own legal practice in 1966 and was admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. In 1969, Frank moved his family to Glastonbury, Conn., where he accepted a position at United Technologies Corporation as legal counsel; his career with UTC lasted through to his retirement in 1992. While with UTC, Frank traveled the world, occasionally with wife and/or children in tow, negotiating contracts and leading UTC's product liability legal activities.

Frank enjoyed spending all his free time with his family playing basketball, Wiffle ball, football, tennis and golf; fishing; boating and generally leading as a fun-loving kid at heart. It was common for all the neighborhood kids to come knocking at the door to ask if "Uncle Frank" could come out and play. As his children grew up, he became a welcomed fixture at virtually all their high school basketball practices and games. Frank was the life of any get-together, making sure everyone was having a great time. He will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Muriel; daughter Kimberley Choiniere and her husband, Paul, and their children, Jennifer and her fiancé, Dave Wilson, and Brian and his wife, Gina; son Frank Pitcher and his partner, Brinna Davis, and his daughter, Kaolin; son Michael Pitcher and his wife, Kerry, and their children, Michael, Shannon, Christopher and Matthew; son Douglas Pitcher and his wife, Lynn, and their children, Jacquelyn, Timothy and Rachel; and daughter Jennifer Paternostro and her husband, James, and their children, James, Sarah and William. Frank also leaves behind a brother-in-law, George Dragonetti and his wife, Elsie; and many nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his father, Francis W. Pitcher; and his mother, Margaret E. Pitcher.

A memorial service will take place in Wayne at 2 p.m. May 9 at the home of Muriel and Frank overlooking Pocassett Lake. Contributions in Frank's memory may be made to the Winthrop Ambulance Association, 31 Old Western Ave., Winthrop, ME 04364. Arrangements are in the care of Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Road, Route 133, Jay. Words of condolence may be sent via e-mail to [email protected].

I am so sorry to learn, at this late date, of Frank's passing and I send my sincerest condolences, to the entire Pitcher family. Frank's Mom was my 4th grade teacher back at the Archer Street School in Freeport, NY and then he and I ended up together at UTC when I arrived there in 1976. I worked for Frank for the last 8 years before our mutual retirement in 1992. Frank saw me through some very trying times in my life and I will be eternally grateful to him for his standing by me during those difficult days. We had many good times together, including catching some blues at the Race on several occasions, once in a pea soup fog! Frank, I think of you often and wish you peace in your new life. May God bless you and your family.

Frank was always such a wonderful patient to work with. He was especially interesting to talk with about Freeport and was generous enough to bring in his Voyager yearbook for my father to look at. It was a pleasure to see my Dad walk down memory lane and remember old classmates even though he could not remember my name. Frank will always be special in my heart for that joy he gave my father who died a month ago. Thank you, Frank.

My Dearest Pitcher Family,
There are not enough words to express my sadness and loss at the passing of Pappy. I have been honored to have been part of the gang since my college years with Kim and Paul. Pappy tried so hard to get me to water ski over the summers. I can Alpine Ski but the water part eluded me. You are always in my thoughts and prayers for I love you all!
Love,
Anne-Marie(ok,only for Pappy-Love, PK)

My sincere condolences to the entire Pitcher family. I had the pleasure of growing up with Frank as my next door neighbor and some of my fondest childhood memories are of fishing and water skiing in Maine with Frank and the the Pitcher gang. I also always smile when I remember Frank goading my dad (Jack Kelleher) every weekend into a game of pig, a round of golf, a tennis match... it really didn't matter he was just a big kid who always wanted to play! Frank seemed to find a way to enjoy every day!

My sincere condolences to all the Pitcher family. I worked for Frank in the Sikorsky Aircraft Legal Dept. and he was the best (even though he insisted I become a U.S. citizen)! My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

I am so sorry to hear of Frank's passing. I worked for Frank for six years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in the 70's. He was the best "boss" I had in my 40 years at UTC. He always made me laugh.

I would love to share a story with you about Exhibit A of the JT9D Agreement. It was probably the only time I saw Frank drain white. My email address is [email protected]. It's halarious.

Knowing Frank was just wonderful. He touched the lives of so many of us. My fondest stories are about him.

My sincere condolences. I've missed him since the time I transferred to UTC. He was so special.

He loved his family and his sheep dogs; he spoke of you Muriel all the time! I am so sorry.

Best,

Mary Ann Thibodeau

You will always be my hero daddy. I know you will be watching over me and every night I will look up at the stars and know all the twinkling stars are you winking at me and letting me know that I will be ok. I love you very much and I just want to let you know that you are the best dad I could ever have had. Your little girl, Gwiny

To Jen and Family,
I was sorry to read about your Dad. You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Diane Donofrio

I miss you and I love you so much daddy. I'm having a hard time dealing with the reality that you have left and I will never hear you say I love you Gwiny ever again. I'm so thankful that I saw you Easter weekend and I heard those words spoken but daddy you left me and didn't let me know that it was the last time I would see you and talk with you. I wish I spent every waking moment with you while I was there. I wish I told you how much you meant to me, I wish I could take you for one last boat ride around the lake, I wish my children could have spent more time with you because daddy they loved you, you were their pappy who always made them laugh and smile. I'm lost without you and my heart is so heavy. I'm trying to be strong and keep my chin up for my family like you always taught me to be but it was a lot easier when you were here because you were my backbone, you always guided me in the right direction. Daddy I can't say goodbye, it's so hard to do so I will just say that I will see you again some day. I love you so much daddy, you will always be in my heart and I will always remember all the joy you have given me and all the laughs, all the stories, all the jokes, all the good in me comes from you. You are such a big part of me daddy and I love you so much and I will always be your little Gwiny girl.
