Herbert Thompson Obituary

HERBERT H. THOMPSON
1963 - 2015
BENTON - Herbert H. Thompson, 52, of Benton, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015. He was born in Waterville on April 24, 1963, the son of Arthur and Hazel (Leavitt) Thompson Sr. of Benton. He attended area schools, graduating with the class of 1981, from Lawrence High School in Fairfield.
Herb was a self-employed businessman, operating an autobody shop in Benton for more than 30 years. He was fortunate enough to be able to say his job was also his greatest hobby. He loved old cars and working on those of others. He was a Mason, belonging to the Sebasticook Lodge #146 in Clinton. He was also a member of the Kora Shriners of Lewiston.
Herb was very generous and always ready to help others however he could. He greatly valued his friendships of which he could number many. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his classmates and helping to plan their reunions. He loved his old cars, coin collecting, and searching out the best deal on an antique. He enjoyed many hours at his camp in Wellington, doing renovations and visiting with friends. Last summer's barbeque at camp with so many friends, both old and the new he made in Wellington, was a cherished memory he spoke of often.
He was predeceased by his mother, Hazel Thompson; and his brothers, Mike Thompson and Arthur Thompson Jr. Herb is survived by his father, Arthur Thompson Sr. of Benton; his wife of 26 years, Sharon L. Thompson of Benton; and many family and friends too numerous to list.
The family would like to thank everyone who made this difficult journey for Herb a little easier with all their kindness and love.
Visiting hours will be from 1-3 p.m. with a Masonic service and funeral service to begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, with Pastor Bill Lawrence officiating. Graveside services will be announced in the spring. Arrangements are by Lawry Brothers, 107 Main St., Fairfield. An online guestbook may be signed and memories shared at: www.lawrybrothers.com

We are so sorry to hear of Herb's passing. He will be missed by so many people. He always had a kind word and a smile. He was happy to share his and Sharon's Grange Camp last summer and he made everyone feel more than welcome and proud to show off his hard work. We will never see a Hawaiian shirt without thinking of him. He had such a great sense of humor when it came to bacon and Victoria's Secret. That will be missed on our Facebook pages on a daily basis. Our deepest sympathies are with Sharon, his Dad and all the family. He was a wonderful man that will never be forgotten.Rest In Peace Herb

How do we know you were our friend?
By the love that you showed straight through end!
Whether it was night, or it was day,
We could count on your hand to lead the way!

A hug, a handshake or a little cheer
A shoulder to lean on or listening ear,
Always there with a laugh and a smile
Being a true friend all the while!

Always giving, caring, and kind
A heart of gold that truly shined
Many saw you as a Godsend.
Rest with the Angels our dear friend!
