Jim, son of James and Viola Brannigan of Brooklyn, N.Y., was a graduate of Brooklyn Prep, NY, Tufts University and the University of San Diego Law School. He was also an officer in the Navy before beginning his career as an attorney.
After working briefly in private practice, Jim began a long career as an attorney in both state and federal government. He was a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Offices of New York, San Diego and Maine as well as in the Maine Attorney General's Office.
Prior to his retirement in 2001, Jim and his family lived in Baldwin, N.Y., San Diego, and Augusta. In retirement Jim and his wife, Judy, split time between Augusta and San Diego.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Bill Brannigan; and his daughter, Theresa. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy (Janeen Elizabeth Sharkey of Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada) and five children: Patrick (Sharon MacKenzie), Michael (Susan Perry), Brian, Brenda, and Katie (Conway Dodge), all of whom attended Sacred Heart Academy in San Diego, St. Mary's School and Cony High School in Augusta.
Jim is also survived by seven wonderful grandchildren: Jack, Annie, CT, Elizabeth, Maeve, Theresa and Eliza; and other special family members Beth, Brigid and Edgar.
A Mass in Jim's honor will be held in Augusta in mid-July and final resting place will be in Woodstock, New Brunswick, beside his daughter, Theresa.

Dear Judy and family,
Carrie and I and my entire family are deeply saddened by the loss.
Mr. Brannigan was an amazing man. I have so many good childhood memories of him. We all respect him dearly and revere him as a role model for all that knew him; a caring father of a wonderful family, an admirable husband and a successful man in all his endeavors.
We will miss him and our hearts go out to all of you, hoping the many wonderful memories will sustain you in this difficult time.
Much Love,
Carrie and Tim

Judy-
Jim was a remarkable man and always made me laugh. I enjoyed the playful banter between the Irishman and the Greek. Wonderful memories. Heartfelt condolences to you and the family.
