Jeffery B. "Jeff The Barber" Williams

Jeffery Williams Obituary

CANAAN -- Jeffery B. Williams, 64, of Canaan passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, surrounded by his family after a brave battle with cancer.

He was born May 14, 1947 in Hartland, the son of Lawrence R. and Crystal (Crommett) Williams.

Jeff graduated from Skowhegan Area High School, class of 1965, then worked as a truck driver for the Agway Co. in Fairfield until entering and finishing Hanson's Barber School in 1968. He owned and operated Jeff's Barber Shop in Fairfield for 41 years. He was a member of the Fairfield Jaycees and belonged to the Masonic lodge in Canaan for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna; two daughters, Shelley Decker of Waterville and Stacey Hartley of Skowhegan; three grandchildren, Scott Alley Jr., Lacianah Alley and Emily Hartley, all of Skowhegan; one sister, Marilee Caldwell of Pittsfield, and Paul Bertrand; two brothers, Walter and wife Linda of Waterville, and Brian and fiancee Marion Lake of Canaan; many nieces, nephews; and a special person to him, D.J Belanger of Skowhegan.

Jeff was a very special person with a gift of gab and expressed views about the towns he lived and worked in, sometimes in a most comical way. His humorous, understanding ways will be so missed by all who knew and loved him, even a little black Lab who is still waiting to hear, "Ride, Dory, let's go!"

A celebration of Jeff's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2012, at Canaan Masonic Lodge on Oak Pond Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine, 477 Congress St., Suite M1, Portland, ME 04101, or website www.maine.wish.org in Jeff Williams' memory.

Papa,
This is the hardest thing I have ever written. You were the worlds greatest grandfather. I will always remember the awesome things we did from my first haircut through you harping on me about decisions in my teenage life :) You taught me so much papa If I ever had a question about anything I came too you, might not have always liked your answer but I knew you were right...most of the time...You werent just a grandfather to me you were also my BEST FRIEND and i find myself lost so often latley just trying to figure out what to do and how to do it without my papa's advice :/ But you always taught me to be strong and move on if I cant change something then move on and do what i can to help whoever i can. Its not the same without you. I tried cutting my own hair the other day..lets just say i gave myself a short buzz cut hahah. I miss you papa but this isnt goodbye its an Ill see you when its my time and then we will have lots of catching up :) Ohh p.s I have orientation at KVCC on Wednesday and Orientation for work on Thursday so Ill be busy lol..If theres one thing I wanna do in life papa its be half the man you are :/ I Love you Papa

Donna,

There are no words to express about how sad we are with Jeff's passing. From that first night, when Dale brought me to Canaan to meet everyone, we all became friends. We have shared so many things over a lot years. Weddings, babies, birthdays, holidays and celebrations of all kinds. Yes, and sad times too. Jeff was always there making us all laugh and making sure that we had plenty to eat. I even survived Chad's first haircut! Forty something years, a lifetime of memories. We are all going to miss him so much. You, Shelley, Stacey, Scotty, Lacy & Emily are in our hearts and thoughts. We love you all.

My brother, friend, confidente..
No words can express the loss of
someone like Jeff who was bigger than
life and made everyone smile who came
into contact with him. We all wish we
could have Jeff's gift of gab. He was
genuinely interested in everyone he
met. Jeff "practiced" cutting my hair
when he was going to barber school and
it was always a nice "visit" when you
went to get your haircut from my little brother Jeff. Donna was his love of his life.. he treasured her and
their 2 daughters and was enchanted by
his 3 grandchildren. His home was really his castle and he didn't want to be anywhere else but enjoying his family. We all hope we can try to measure up to this gentle, truly giving man who touched all our lives.
May his family know that he will be with them always watching over them.
God Bless, Walter & Linda Williams

To Jeff's family, we are sorry to hear of your loss. I remember his laughter when my brother would get his hair cut. Jeff always joked, "do you want me to cut your sisters hair." We have had generations of family go to him. His SMILE will be missed!! May you find comfort with cherished memories of Jeff.

Donna- We were saddened to read Jeff's obituary. I enjoyed seeing him regularly for haircuts and good conversation. I've missed him since he became unable to be my barber. I remember especially, back many years ago, when the two of you came together to Somerset Academy events. Karen didn't really know Jeff, but remembers you as a cute little girl with a big friendly smile getting on the school bus every morning. We are truly sorry for your loss. May God comfort you and your family. John and Karen Hilton

December 29, 2011

Donna,

John and Pat informed Linda and I about the passing of Jeff. Words are hard to express a loss of this magnitude. I always enjoyed being around Jeff and listening to his great sense of humor. It was also nice to hear stories about him and John when they were young men. I think back to the night you and Jeff came to our cottage in Lakewood for a boat ride, cocktails, and a Bar-B-Q. That was a great evening and it gave us a chance to see Jeff in a very relaxed enviorment. Please take care of yourself and you will be in our prayers.
