LEO MARTIN Obituary

AUGUSTA -- Leo Arthur Martin, 71, died May 1, 2013, at Maine Veterans' Home, after a brief illness.

Leo was born in Augusta on Nov. 30, 1941, the son of Leo A. Martin and Kathleen C. True Martin.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army.

Prior to his retirement, Leo worked for Zayre's and Ames department stores for 32 years.

Leo was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagle's 3137 of Augusta. He enjoyed playing pool and watching sports.

His favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and the New York Giants.

Leo was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Beverly Purdon.

He is survived by one brother, Joseph Martin, and his wife, Kathleen, of Springfield, Mass.; one sister, Barbara Seekins, of Pittsfield, Mass.; many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Sue Thornton and Reggie Fortin.

At his request, there will be no visiting hours and no service. Burial with military honors will be in Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maine Veterans' Home, Augusta, for the kind and loving care they gave to Leo.

Donations in Leo's memory may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, c/o Augusta Eagles Club, 71 Water St., Augusta, ME 04330.

Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Condolences, photos and memories may be shared at www.plummerfh.com.

Leo was a gentleman and had a work ethic that would be a great example to any young person. Fred enjoyed taking him to a Red Sox game and talking to him about sports.
