WATERVILLE - Sister Yvette Poulin of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, formerly known as Sister Sainte Lucille, 89, died April 15, 2014, at Mount St. Joseph in Waterville.
She was born in Waterville, July 18, 1924, the daughter of Joseph and Emilia (Shank) Poulin.
Sister attended Saint Francis de Sales School and Mount Merici Academy in Waterville. She received a bachelor of science degree from Saint Joseph College in Windham.
She also pursued studies at l'Universite Catholique de Paris while she was in France.
Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Lyon in South Berwick in 1943. From 1945 to 1970 she taught at Holy Family School in Lewiston. Upon leaving Lewiston, Sister served as Provincial bookkeeper in Winslow.
Her last assignment was at the service of the retired priests at Mount St. Joseph in Waterville, where she was sacristan and supervisor of maintenance.
She retired at Fontbonne Community, Mount St. Joseph, in January 2007.
Sister is survived by one sister, Theresa Cote; and sister-in-law Muriel Poulin, of Kentucky; several cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters Gertrude Poulin and Lucille Breton; brothers Alfred and Adrian Poulin; and brothers-in-law Jean Paul Breton, Hubert Caron and Frederic Cote.
Sister Yvette was a joyful and prayerful woman who loved music, arts and crafts. The Eucharist was the center of her life.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at St. John the Baptist Church, 26 Monument St., Winslow. Burial will be at a later date in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville.
The Sisters of St. Joseph wish to express their gratitude to the nursing staff at Mount St. Joseph for the love and outstanding care they provided Sr. Yvette.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Sister Yvette Poulin may be sent to Sisters of Saint Joseph Ministry Fund, 100 Pleasant St., Waterville, ME 04901.
