Emily Tucci Obituary
PORTLAND -- Jane Tucci, 81, of Portland, passed away peacefully at the Barron Center on March 2, 2014, after a brief illness.
She was born in Bar Harbor on Dec. 26, 1932, the youngest daughter of Harry and Blanche Sprague's five children. When Jane was born she was originally named Bessie Blackwood, after her delivery nurse. She was relieved that this was short lived! The story goes, once her father found out what her mother named her he walked all the way back to the hospital in a snowstorm to change it.
Jane received her GED later in life and was very proud of her accomplishment. She worked at Healthtex as a supervisor for many years until she retired. She enjoyed sewing, was a fabulous cook and loved going down to Scarborough Downs with her late husband, Carlo. Jane was a talented singer and guitar player in a country western band where she got to relish in her passion for music, and her songs were even played on the radio.
Jane will be long remembered for her unwavering support, love, generosity and dedication to her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; four siblings; husband Carlo Tucci; and her daughter Barbara Joy Tucci. Jane is survived by her daughter Debbie Griffin and her husband Les Griffin of Portland; three grandchildren, Vanessa Kearns and husband Gary Kearns II of Windham, Robert Staples Jr. of Portland and Haley Griffin, with soon to be great-grandchild, Nikolas of Portland.
The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at the Barron Center for the quality time and attention spent with her during her stay.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Bruno's Restaurant, 33 Allen Ave., Portland.
