Jason Whitaker Obituary

Jason 'Jake' E.
Whitaker, 39
GORHAM -- Jason 'Jake' E. Whitaker, 39, of Gorham, passed away on Nov. 12, 2011, at the Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Portland on Jan. 13, 1972, the son of Marguerite A. Babine and David Whitaker.
Jake was a graduate of Portland High School and attended the University of Southern Maine. He was employed as manager of Logistics at Barber Foods. He was highly respected and always got the task done, but his first priority was family.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing hockey and golf. He was a master at the grill and loved good cigars and martinis with good friends. Everyone whose life he touched will remember Jake as a loving son, brother, father, beloved friend and 'man amongst men.'
Jake is survived by his wife, Christina Whitaker; sons, Derek and Dylan; mother, Marguerite A. Babine; sisters, Nicole Grimauldi of Gorham and Michellene Long of Kentucky; along with many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery, South Portland.
Jake's family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Marjorie Boyd and the staff at Gibson Pavilion for the wonderful care that they provided for Jake during his stay at Maine Medical Center. The family would also like to extend a special thank you Jakes closest friends and the staff at DiMillo's Restaurant for putting on 'Jakeaplooza.'

To Jason's Family -

I'm so shocked to hear the news...We were such good friends growing up in Rockport, MA...Then, we lost touch when he moved away...although he tracked me down on one of his returns to Cape Ann - Who could ever forget our times at the "Yankee Clipper"...Nicki, I'm so sorry for the loss of your brother..We had so much fun when we were younger....I'll always remember how thoughtful Jason was...and how he always had my back! You'll be missed, buddy - RIP

Before I attended Jakeapalooza I had no idea who Jake was. That all changed as soon as I arrived and saw the outpouring of love and support for this man. Watching the slide show I thought, "what a guy!"- so obviously the life and love of every party. My thoughts and prayers are with Jake's family and friends. You were so blessed by his time on earth. May your memories, and his love, sustain you now.

I once told Jake that having him downstairs from me was like having my brother right next door to me. If I needed anything or any kind of help he was always there to lend a hand. I miss his presence at the house and at work when he would stop by to chat for some reason or other. My thoughts and prayers are with you and his family at this time.

Gardi, Missy,and family:
I'm so sorry to hear of Jake's passing. I have fond, distant childhood memories of doing ceramics with you, Gardi, as well as the occasional sleepover with Jake & Missy. Though we haven't been in touch all these years, it saddens me nonetheless to hear of Jake's passing. Back then he was a sweet kid, and I'm sure that carried over to his adult years as well. My condolences.

SOME PEOPLE have contagious smiles
"Just another day"interrupted by happiness
SOME PEOPLE shake hands firmly, vigorously
Saying "Good to see you"with their eagerness
SOME PEOPLE listen well, and REALLY hear you
Paying attention is just one form of their kindness
SOME PEOPLE are full of life and energy
Warm lights in sea of darkness
---
Jake IS "SOME PEOPLE".
I can see Jake in paradise, waiting to greet us with a firm handshake and a big smile.
Jake, we miss you, but we're glad your suffering has ended.
We remember you. Thank you for being you. Thank you for sharing your light with us.
