Joseph Littlefield Obituary

Joseph D.
Littlefield, 86
OGUNQUIT -- Joseph D. Littlefield, 86, of High Rock Lane, Ogunquit, died peacefully on Sept. 6, 2011, at his home in the loving care of his family.
Joe was born on Jan. 2, 1925, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of Joseph P. and Amanda (Guptil) Littlefield, and lived his whole life in Ogunquit.
He graduated from Fryeburg Academy and at 17 years of age, enlisted in the U.S. Navy to proudly serve his country during World War II. Upon his return, he earned his bachelor's degree in Economics from Bowdoin College, class of 1950.
Always devoted to his family, Joe returned to Ogunquit after graduation to help run the family businesses, which included The High Rock Hotel.
In 1983, he married Marcella (Smith) Clancy. Joe was a loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather to their children and grandchildren and they had many happy years together.
In 2010, Joe was honored for his philanthropy and was chosen Ogunquit's Citizen of the Year for his many contributions to the community, most notably the gift of Beach Plum Farm, a 23-acre parcel of land overlooking the Ogunquit River, to the Great Works Land Trust.
Joe was a successful businessman but will most be remembered for the kindness, generosity and love given to his family and friends and for the quiet way he lived his life.
Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Marcy Littlefield; his children, Michael J. Clancy and his wife Suzanne of Mattapoisett, Mass., and their children Cayla, Erica and Michael Jr., Sheila A. Clancy of Ogunquit, Martha F. Clancy of East Greenwich, R.I., Moira Clancy of Bluffton, S.C., Christina C. Bonvouloir and her husband John of Kenilworth, Ill., and their children Joseph and Elizabeth; and nephews, Philip Bissonette and his wife Ally of East Bridgewater, Mass., and Dana Bissonette of Greenland, N.H. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Bissonette.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, from 2-4 p.m., at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Rd., Wells. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m., at Ogunquit Baptist Church, Shore Road, Ogunquit, with the Rev. Jeffrey Patnaude presiding. Interment with full military honors will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel www.bibberfuneral.com.
