Philip Foley Obituary

Philip James Foley, 57
PORTLAND - Philip James "LipLey" Foley, 57, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at home, sur-rounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 31, 1959, in Portland, the son of Peter M. and Lenora A. (Maietta) Foley.
Philip graduated from Cheverus High School and St. Joseph's College, where he met many lifelong friends. After school, he entered the United States Postal Service and enjoyed working there for over 30 years. He worked on the same route throughout his career, allowing him to get to know his customers who truly appreciated his happy demeanor and the extra effort he put into his job every day.
Philip enjoyed attending all of his children's sporting events. Some of his other favorite pastimes included singing, dancing, yard work and meeting up with friends at "The Gardens." Philip was a man of faith, which helped him through his battle with cancer.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Trina and his children, Christina Mealey (David), Ryan (Talia), Tanner and Griffin. He also leaves behind his sisters, Serena and Maria; brothers, Kevin (Lea) and Peter (Bonnie); and many nieces and nephews.
Philip was predeceased by his first wife, Catherine; maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank the staff at New England Cancer Specialists and Hospice of Southern Maine for their support. Also, a big shout out to all of Philip's coworkers, customers, neighbors, friends and family. He truly appreciated all the love and kindness he received.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at
A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services,
660 Brighton Avenue, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius Church, Portland, Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. To offer condolences and share memories with the family, please go to: www.athutchins.com

Although I do not know Philip J. Foley, I feel that we are connected due to the fact that I am also a Philip J. Foley and my nickname is "PhilFo". I was shocked to find that another Philip Foley chose to connect 2 parts of their name, and that it was the 2nd half. I wish I could've met him.....

We had been away most of the summer, and on Friday when we saw so many cars at Phil's home, our hearts sank. We treasured the warmth of Phil's smile and appreciated the extra effort he made to be sure we received our mail, especially as we so often had it on hold for short periods of time. Our hearts go out to all of you in this time of sorrow. May your memories and the joy of having him in your life carry you through each day. Love and prayers,
Jane and Cliff Ives

We were on Phil's postal route for decades and can't imagine not seeing his smiling face at the mailbox. He had the most amazing outlook, even after his diagnosis. Our sincerest condolences to his family--he will be missed by so many. He was simply one of the best. Carol Nylen and Jim MacDougal

When I think of Philip I can see him playing pretend piano and belting out a Christopher Cross song. He was charming, quick to laugh, always ready to entertain, easy to tease and he always made me smile.
To all the Foley's and all who loved Philip I am so sorry for your loss, for our loss.
Much Sympathy,

I lived across the street from the Foleys on Bradley Street for a few years growing up. I was younger than Phillip. There was always a large gang of great boys at their house playing basketball and hanging out in their basement. Such great memories of those days. I'm so sorry to hear this news about Phillip. Such a great guy. Sending love and prayers to Serena, Kevin, Peter and Maria, and all the rest of Phil's family. I am so very sorry for your loss. Xo -Rosanne
