Walter A. Newman Jr.

Walter A. "Drew" Newman, Jr. of Rock Hall, Maryland died on November 11, 2013 at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He was 83. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 16, 1930, the son of the late Walter Andrews Newman, Sr. and Mary Connolly Newman. Mr. Newman was a graduate of Radnor High School in Wayne, PA and studied business at The Wharton School in Philadelphia. He served in the U.S. Army. On January 23, 1954 he married Leila Marguerite "Peggy" Lynam. They raised their children in Berwyn, PA. Mr. Newman owned and operated Newman Galleries in Philadelphia and Bryn Mawr, PA. He and his wife moved to their summer home in Rock Hall, MD in 2005. His wife predeceased him on August 9, 2010. His sisters, Naomi "Teddi" Newman and Nancy Newman Dackert, and brother David, also preceded him in death. He was a member of Rock Hall Yacht Club, Massey Air Museum, Kent County Waterman's Association, and the Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post #228 in Rock Hall. Drew enjoyed riding his bicycle and motorcycle, fishing, sailing, learning to fly, and photography. He is survived by his children, Walter A. "Andy" Newman, III of Philadelphia, Terrence C. Newman and his wife Denise of Pottstown, PA, Janice White and her husband Chuckie of Rock Hall, MD, and Patricia Newman and her friend Jimmy Wilson of Rock Hall, his grandchildren, Taylor and Tucker White, Cara and Connor Newman, Kayla and Meggie Crew, and her fianc Mike Otwell. Also surviving him is his great grandson, Jasper Michael Otwell, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Graveside services were held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery, Kent.
