Fariborz Amini Obituary
Surrounded by his loving family, Dr. Fariborz Amini passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 13th, 2004 at the age of 73.
Born in Iran, Fariborz Amini graduated from medical school at UCSF and served on the faculty there for 37 years. During his tenure, he served as the Director of Clinical Services, Residency Training, the Adolescent Unit, the Adult Outpatient Department, and Psychiatric Clinics. An adored teacher, he was proud to have received the Award for Excellence in Teaching numerous times, the Chancellor's Special Performance Award, and the highest award from the Department of Psychiatry Langley Porter Alumni Faculty Association. With his dear colleagues, he co-authored "A General Theory of Love," a culmination of their influential theories on attachment, memory, and emotion.
Fari's greatest pleasure was making his family happy. His beloved wife Elizabeth, his six remarkable daughters -- Kim, Lisa, Dawn, Ariana, Christina, and Elita, and his seven grandchildren -- Ricky, Matt, Emma, Noah, Alexandra, Paul, and Toby, were the joy of his heart. Always involved in their activities, he served as President of the Ross School Board and spent many years coaching his daughters' undefeated soccer teams.
Fari's special gifts were his unerring insight, his authenticity, his integrity, and his deep love for others. His indomitable spirit will live on in his family and in all the lives that he touched. If life is measured by the impact we have on others, then Fari was a king among men.
A memorial will be held at The Branson School in Ross, CA on June 27th at 10:30 A.M. The Amini Foundation for the Study of Affect will continue to support his life's work.
