David Doss Obituary

David H. Doss

Marion - David H. Doss, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday morning, August 14, 2018.

David was born near Springfield, OH on January 7, 1935 to Harvey M. and Helen (Knott) Doss.

On June 6, 1954, he married Rebecca A. Ellinwood in Magnetic Springs, OH. They shared a happy and loving life for 64 years.

David graduated from Harding High School in 1953 and attended Marion Technical College.

At First United Church of Christ where he was a member, he taught Sunday School, was a deacon and was on the Sunday School Church Board.

In his younger years, he loved to play softball. He was a Little League coach for his son's baseball team for several years.

He played golf on the Parker-Hannifan golf team. While playing, he achieved every golfers dream—a Hole in One!

His family was most important to him. He spent time fishing with them at Lake Erie and vacationing there. Trips to Myrtle Beach, Florida, Hawaii and visiting all 5 Great Lakes.

Anyone who knew David knew now much he loved to tell jokes. At family reunions, he would tell people he hadn't had so much fun since "the pigs ate his little brother". He will be missed by all his nephews and nieces because David loved spending time with them.

David retired from Parker-Hannifan as a buyer in 2000. He worked there 33 years.

He is survived by his wife of over 64 years Becky, his daughter Lori (Tim) Baker of Marion, OH and his son Gary (Vicki) Doss of Sarasota, FL. His grandchildren Zachariah Baker of Waldo, OH, Holly Shamblin of St. Louis, MO and Brock (Cynthia) Shamblin of Columbus, OH. His great grandson Glenn Shamblin. His brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kenneth and Ethel Ellinwood and sister-in-law Susie Doss, and his loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Harvey (Al) Doss, four brothers-in-law, Dave, Frank, Truman and Ronnie and three sisters-in-law, Marie, Charlotte and Janie and the little brother, the pigs ate.

Calling hours will be at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Saturday August 18, 2018 starting at 11am to 1:30 pm. A funeral service will follow calling hours starting at 1:30pm with Pastor Marcellus de Oliveira officiating along with a eulogy by Pastor Shawn Anthony at the funeral home. A committal service will be held on Monday August 20, 2018 at the Marion Cemetery.

Dear Lori and family: I was sorry to see that your dad passed away. I knew he had been ill for sometime. God is my comforter and I pray He will bring you the comfort and peace you need at your loss. Sorry I can't be at the calling hours. We just recently moved to MO.
