DELAWARE - Ervin S. Miller, 75, of Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on February 11, 2009.
He was born April 30, 1933 in Delaware to Raymond and Catherine Gertrude (Siegfried) Miller. He was a lifetime resident of Delaware County and a 1951 graduate of Willis High School, attended The Ohio State University, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 through 1955. He was employed as traffic manager and later as a grain merchandiser at Central Soya in Marion for thirty-six years, retiring in 1995. He was co-owner of Miller's Country Gardens, and after his retirement from Central Soya, he could often be found working at the family farm market. Ervin and his family were recognized by the Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce as "Farm Family of the Year" in 2008. Ervin was a lifelong member of the Zion United Church of Christ where he served on Council, the Endowment Board, the Finance Committee and as chairman of the Elevator Construction Committee. He was a member of Hiram Masonic Lodge, the Delaware County Historical Society, the Delaware Area Rose Society, and the Delta Nu Alpha Traffic Fraternity. He was also an avid bridge player.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Diane; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Wayne Rogers of Delaware; four sons and daughters-in law, Dwight and Melissa of Cardington, Scott and Laura, Mark and Terri, and Dale and Lori, all of Delaware; and numerous grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
His family will miss his passion for farming, playing bridge, cheering on the Buckeyes, caring for his dogs, researching the family genealogy, vacationing on cruises, and attending all of his children's and grandchildren's activities.
A service will be held at Zion United Church of Christ on Saturday, February 21, 2009. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with a memorial service at 11:00 am; Rev. Gunnar Cerda and Rev. Kim Bayless will officiate. A reception for family and friends will be held at the church following the service. A private family burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery.
