Benton Dyer Obituary
September 24, 1949 - July 3, 2022
It is with great sadness to announce that Ben Dyer (Benton Joseph Dyer) passed away on July 3, 2022.
He was born in Bassett, Va., and had spent the last 32 years in Hillsborough, N.C., before retiring in 2018. He was the oldest in a family of seven siblings and graduated from John D Bassett High School in 1967. He was a lifetime learner and adventurer. A master craftsman goldsmith he left us with beautiful reminders of his artistic craft in the beautiful jewelry he made that will passed down for generations. In 1993 he was chosen to be in the coveted Smithsonian crafts show. He also taught workshops at the Spruill Center of Arts near Atlanta, Sawdust School for Visual Arts in Winston-Salem, and James Carter Studios in Carrboro, N.C. He went to real estate school to learn how to buy houses for income and never bought into the myth you couldn't also use your left brain as well as your right. While being a successful goldsmith, he also finished seven years of Chinese acupuncture school and received his certification in 2007. Though he was a hard worker he also lived life to the fullest, jumping from airplanes, traveling to South America, Europe and finally retiring to the ex-pat community of Ajijic, Mexico. He loved music, art, reading, hiking and traveling. We all appreciated his uniqueness, and our lives were enriched and influenced by him.
He will be in our hearts forever. A celebration of life is being planned.

Sincere condolences to the Dyer family. Ben was a long time and trusted friend for 25 years after meeting at the Inner Focus School for Advanced Energy Healing, 1997-2000. Ben and his loving partner, Chris, and I shared many adventures together locally and abroad. His wiry smile and good humor will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to all also grieving this loss.
