Carol Daniel Obituary

Carol Catherine Holben Daniel, 83, died peacefully on April 21, 2022 in her home in Salisbury Township, PA surrounded by loving family and friends. The daughter of Stephen and Miriam (Kuhns) Chipser, Carol was born and raised in Allentown and was a graduate of Allentown High School (1956) and Abington School of Nursing (1959).

Upon graduation, Carol became a pediatric nurse at Allentown Hospital (17th St). Her nursing skills were best utilized, however, performing home dialysis for 18 years for her first husband, Michael L. Holben. Carol served as a mentor and coach for home dialysis for numerous families and nurses in training. Carol was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Macungie, PA with her second husband of 28 years, John Lisy Daniel. They traveled extensively, wintering in St. Petersburg, FL, and together were active participants in local, regional, and national church service. After her first husband's death, Carol carried on as a land developer for the family. She served on the Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Board of Associates Executive Committee and the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the Visiting Nurses, Celebrity Luncheons. Carol was also a member and supporter of LVHN Friends of Nursing, Emmaus Junior Women's Club, the Zoellner Arts Center Inaugural Committee – Lehigh University, and The Bach Choir of Bethlehem's First Gala Committee. Carol will be remembered as a charming, graceful person and loving matriarch. She was known for her vibrant personality and her ability to start a conversation with anyone. She lovingly raised her three children, participating in all their events and activities despite her husband's chronic illness. She adored her grandchildren (and they her) and had a unique bond with each of them. During a long illness, Carol was able to remain at home thanks to an amazing team of caregivers, LVHN Hospice personnel, and a very special pastor. They tirelessly supported her and the entire family, and we are forever grateful to them.

In addition to her husband John, Carol is survived by her children: Lauren Holben Fine and husband Mark, Allentown, PA, Susan Holben Ioannou and husband John, Union NJ, Eric Michael Holben and wife Jane, Allentown, PA; grandchildren: Andrew, Megan, Kevin, Shaun, Michael, Christopher, Collin, and Erica; brother: John Chipser and wife Frances, Blain, WA; and her dear sister-in-law Patricia Holben Eckert, St. Petersburg, FL. She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Michael Lee Holben, and an infant son, Todd Daniel Holben.

I still live in the S 6th Street home in which I grew up. Ever time I drive down the street I still think of Mr. And Mrs. Chipper and Carol when I pass their home. The memories of years gone by are as vivid as if they happened yesterday. May the entire Chipser family rest in eternal peace.

Sue, it has been a very long time, but I have a fond memory of your mom. I grew up on S. 6th Street, about 5 houses away from your mom and her parents. They were a wonderful family. I would sit and talk with your grandparents, and occasionally you mom would join us. Many years later, I had the pleasure of working with you as a lifeguard at the Holiday Inn at Route 309 and Route 22. During that time I had the opportunity of speaking with your mom. She was a fantastic lady and I will always remember our brief moments together. RIP Carol
