David Lee Freidl

David Lee Freidl, age 70, of Blackwood, NJ, passed away suddenly at his home on May 24, 2021. He was the beloved husband of 45 years to Melanie (nee Slopik) Freidl. Born in Easton, PA on October 5, 1950, he was a loving son of the late Frank and Shirley (nee Hammerstone) Freidl. David was a proud graduate of Wilson Area High School in Easton, PA ('68) and the University of Pennsylvania ('72) where he was an accomplished lightweight football player, recognized as an All-American and All-Decade offensive/defensive lineman. He received his Advanced Engineering Degrees from Drexel University ('81). David was an avid sportsman who enjoyed both hunting and fishing. He had a deep appreciation for all of nature and God's creation often reflecting on our beautiful world in both conversation and writing. His quick wit and fun-loving nature ingratiated him to both his family and his many friends. David worked as a civil engineer/project controls manager for United Engineers & Construction, Raytheon, and finally for the Washington Group, retiring in 2017. He was a scholar in the civil engineering community, with many publications and presentations during his career. He received numerous accolades from the American Academy of Cost Engineers. He was a member of the Iron Horse Gun Club, AACE, Senior Citizens Group of Gloucester Twp, and a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. David is survived by his children Michael Freidl and wife Kathryn of Jacksonville, FL., Benjamin and wife Eve of Brooklyn, NY, and Amanda Freidl (Karl Ober) of Philadelphia, PA, his grandchildren, Rex, Nash, Bo, Mila, Josef, and Mae Freidl, and brothers Frank and Robert of Easton, and Kerry of Bethlehem. He is also survived by his beloved dog Winnie and many nieces and nephews. There will be a Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 29th from 8:30am to 10:15 am at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE, 126 S. Black Horse Pike, Runnemede, NJ 08078. Funeral Mass 11am at Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Agnes RC Church, 701 Little Gloucester Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Black Horse Pike & Lower Landing Road, Chews Landing, NJ.
