Donald F. Bartholomew Sr.
Donald F. Bart Bartholomew Sr., 83, of Lehighton, PA quietly passed June 24, 2010, at Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with family by his side. He received excellent nursing and Arcadia Hospice care during his fight with Alzheimers. He was born in Bowmanstown to the late Stuart and Katharine (Fiske) Bartholomew. Donald graduated from Lehighton Area High School in 1944 and was drafted by the Army. After World War II, he returned on military leave in 1947 to marry his sweetheart, Katharine Kitty (Balliet). On June 20, 2010, he and his loving wife celebrated 63 years of marriage. Donald was a Christian by faith. Donald served in the Army and Air Force for 30 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Donald and Kitty retired to Lehighton in 1989 and became gentlemen farmers. He was a life member of the Lehighton American Legion Post 314, National Rifle Association, Air Force Sergeants Association and Bowmanstown Lions Club where he served as a past President. He was active over the years in many organizations including the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts as a Scoutmaster, SCUBA diving, archery, hunting, fishing and conservation. Survivors: In addition to his devoted wife, he leaves two children; son Donald Bartholomew Jr., Major USAF (Ret) and his wife Marie-Pierre and daughter Penny and husband J. Michael Cummiskey DDS, four sisters; Ethel Powers, Clarice Godshall, Jasmine and husband Garrett Joest and the late Thora Miller, a brother; Horace, five grandchildren; Donald Bartholomew III, Capt. USAF, Heather and husband Dean Smith, Nathan Cummiskey and wife Sherry, Jason Cummiskey and wife Kitty and Brendon Cummiskey. There are seven great-grandchildren. Services: Interment will be private in the family plot, Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Bowmanstown. Online condolences may be sent to www.schaefferfunerals.com. Sincere condolences from a cousin and wife. Lost track during war. Enjoyed family visits and hearing father Stewart tell tales of his hunting and fishing experiences. Always knew Donald would become a good citizen and family man. Will remember our associations.
