Henry Schultz Obituary

"> Henry J. Schultz
Henry J. Schultz, of Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth, passed away peacefully into a new life on Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Born on January 8, 1910, he was the son of the late Henry C. Schultz, a former Easton Postmaster and Anna (Rapp) Schultz. A 1927 graduate of Easton High School, Henry attended Lafayette College and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1932 with a bachelor of science degree in Building Construction. Shortly after graduation, he joined his fathers roofing and sheet metal works as a sheet metal mechanic, eventually becoming a partner and sole owner of the firm Henry C. Schultz & Son, Mechanical Contractors. He proudly volunteered to serve his country as a Lieutenant in the Naval Reserves during World War II in the Pacific Theater, participating in the Iwo Jima invasion landings and serving in Shanghai as a member of the Chinese Occupational Forces. Always an ardent supporter of the City of Easton and Easton businesses, he was elected to Eastons first Charter Study Commission and served on the City of Easton Authority by appointment of Mayor Dr. George Smith. He was elected to Easton City Council in November, 1965, winning re-election in 1969 and 1973, serving as president for two years before being elected Mayor of Easton in November 1976 for a four year term.Henry was a long-time member of numerous local, state and national associations, including the Joint Planning Commission of Northampton County, the Governors Justice Commission, the Municipal Police Officers Training and Education Commission of Pennsylvania, the Board of Directors of Pennsylvania League of Cities, the Easton Area Christmas Peace Candle Committee which he chaired for 12 years. He was a lifetime member of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Liberty Hose Company, Order of Fleas, Rice-Ebner Post 588, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Union Council 345, and 4th Degree Pope Pius XII Assembly. He took particular pride in being a 74 year member of the mens choir of St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church. Following his term as Mayor, he served 20 years as a Tipstaff for Northampton County President Judge Robert A. Freedberg, eventually retiring in 2001 at the age of 91. Beyond his church and his family, whom he dearly loved, he stood tall as a proud Democrat, a dedicated honest elected servant, and a loyal Yankees fan. He was a firm believer in the democratic process, never failing to exercise his right to vote. He and his late wife, Josephine, were inducted into the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame on January 16, 1987 in ceremonies at Easton Area High School.Married to the late H. Josephine Schmid on October 27, 1934, they traveled extensively throughout the world and achieved their goal of visiting each of the 50 states, doing so just prior to their 50th wedding anniversary. John and Florence,

Fr. Vandergeest always remarked how much he loved to see a Democrat and a Republican serve on the altar.
I enjoy your father and our many arguments, although they were friendly.
I know both of your parents will be missed, but know they both lived a long and happy life.

Neil B. Corley, Former Mayor of Pohatcong Twp.

Dear Ann, Tom & Families,

After living a long and wonderful life in the company of his family and many friends, we can just imagine how much your Dad is enjoying his heavenly home now, even though he will be missed by all who knew him.

He certainly was blessed to have lived such a long life in good health and in the company of his loving wife and family!
