Gregory Frucci Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory - Great Neck Chapel on Mar. 13, 2026.
Gregory Allen Frucci, 65, passed peacefully on February 28, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA following a battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by loved ones. He is preceded by his father, Lt. Col. Allen L. Frucci (Retired, USMC), his mother, Dr. Susan "Suzy" Edmondson Frucci, his sister, Maria Frucci-Saunders, and his beloved dog, Lucky.

Greg was born in Beaufort, South Carolina. A self described "military brat", he had the privilege of calling many places home, most notably the Outer Banks in NC; Virginia Beach, VA; and Northern California. In 1984, he graduated with honors from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelors of Architecture. Throughout his life, he was an architect, artist, photographer, sailor, actor, and author, whose books include The Path of Three Hundred, which details a solo sailing trip in the Atlantic.

A life-long surfer, skydiver, and avid traveler, he had a deep love of the ocean and the natural world. He sought to bring the outside into the spaces he designed, and through his photography captured the inherent beauty of his subjects, whether it was a Bermuda Longtail, the incoming tide, or a fighter jet.

He saw life as a journey, and often shared his gratitude for his experiences, be it walking through the redwoods with Lucky, or a dawn photography session in Angkor Wat. Never one for small talk, he cherished the connections he made with other people, including lifelong friends and brief encounters in a road-side diner.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Rustici and her husband Ross, his grandchildren Fiona and Cullen, his brother The Honorable Steven Frucci and his wife Janice, his nephews Nicholas and Connor, his brother-in-law Randy Saunders, and his niece Arabella.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marine Toys for Tots foundation (toysfortots.org). A service will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Great Neck Chapel of the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, located at 1264 Great Neck Rd, N. Virginia Beach, VA. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
