John J. Scherr
John J. Guzzy Scherr, 86, of Whitehall, passed away July 9 in Phoebe Home, Allentown. He was married to Frieda (Leitgeb) Scherr for 58 years. Born in Coplay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Knitelfelter) Scherr. He was a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 43 years retiring in 1983. He was a member of st. Peters Catholic Church, Coplay. A veteran of the Army Infantry in World War II, he was a life member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 454, Northampton and the American Legion Post 426, Coplay. He was a member of the Coplay Saengerbund. Survivors: Wife; sons, John Jr. and Michael, both of Whitehall; brother, William and his wife, Eleanor, of Northampton; nieces, nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Charles, Alfred, and sister, Mary. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Robert A. Hauke Funeral Home, 327 Chestnut St., Coplay, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Call 9-10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Contributions: To the church, c/o the funeral home, 18037.

Dear Aunt Frieda and cousins John and Michael -
We are so very sorry to hear about Uncle Guzzy ... please know that he is resting peacefully with our Lord and is watching over us all.
Hold the good memories close to your hearts.

Frieda, John, and Michael, We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved husband and father. He was such a nice hardworking man. Never a time would go by that he would not stop to talk to us. We know he wil be sadly missed,but know that he is in a better place and now at rest with our Lord. Sincerely, The Makara Family
