Sandra Vajda Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Jean Vajda of Freemansburg, PA was called to meet her Savior on November 8 at age 78.

She was born to parents Helen and David Pittinger in Bethlehem, PA, and graduated from Liberty High School in 1961. Sandy married her high school sweetheart in 1963, and settled in Freemansburg where she raised her children.

Sandy obtained a Masters' degree in Education at Kutztown University, and upon graduation directed her passion and creative energies to teaching Spanish to successive classes of middle and high school students at Allentown Central Catholic and Northern Lehigh, retiring in 2011. She was a long-time member of St. John's Windish Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was active in teaching Sunday School, and also English immersion classes. When not teaching, Sandy enjoyed lunching with friends, solving crossword puzzles, reading cookbooks, and enjoying time with her five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 58 years, (Charles) Bruce Vajda; children Melanie (Gerald) Wrecsics of Freemansburg, and Paul (Kristina) of Durham, NH; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 9-11am on Monday, November 15 at St. John's Windish Evangelical Lutheran Church, 617 E 4th St, Bethlehem, PA 18015, followed immediately by a funeral service. The family kindly requests that visitors wear masks upon entry to the church.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Sandy. She and I carpooled to school for a year when I was a teacher at Northern Lehigh Middle School. I always enjoyed our conversations and her laugh was contagious! She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Such a pleasant caring, loving and kind woman...I will miss her smiling face and upbeat look on life that I saw every Sunday morning at St John's Lutheran (+)

She was my absolute favorite teacher. In middle school I had to brush my teeth after lunch because of having braces. She was my class after lunch and I would often race her to her class. On a couple occasions she would race me (literally running) down the hall to beat me. Cup of coffee/tea in hand both laughing down the hall! She was the best! Rest In Peace sweet Mrs. Vajda
