Wayland T. Getz, 90, of Pen Argyl, Pa., died Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at Easton Hospital, Wilson. Born August 4, 1916, in Long Run, Pa., he was the son of the late Reuben O. and Alice (Schuck) Getz. His wife of 57 years, the former Jane (Sandercock), died in 2004. He was employed as a heavy assembler at the former Bear Automotive, Bangor, until retiring in 1981. Prior to that, he was employed with his father in the family business R.O. Getz and Son, Pen Argyl, and at the Lehigh New England Railroad in the Slate Belt area. He was a 1936 graduate of Pen Argyl High School. He served in the Army as a Staff Sgt. in the 581st Signal Warning Battalion during World War II. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Pen Argyl. Survivors: Two daughters, Karen A. Pinto of Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., Christine Getz of Pen Argyl; son, Wayne Getz of Kresgeville; two grandchildren, John M. Pinto, Andrea Kio. Services: 1 p.m. Friday, St. Johns Lutheran Church, 12 N. Westbrook Ave., Pen Argyl. Call noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Plainfield Twp. Arrangements have been entrusted to James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, Pen Argyl.
