William Mattern Obituary

William J. Mattern, 80, of Bethlehem, PA died Sunday, June 24, 2018 in his home with his family by his side. Born January, 23, 1938 in Pottsville, PA he was the son of the late Mary (Mullock) and William E. Mattern. He was married to Josephine R. (Angelo) Mattern with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage this past April 30th. William was a graduate of Minersville High School, class of 1955 where he was a multi-sport athlete. William proudly served his country in the US Navy 1955-1967. While in the Navy, he played guitar in a band and traveled throughout Europe entertaining the troops. He retired as a Senior Technical Sales Specialist from Bayer-Lanxess. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Josephine, daughters, Gina Holmes (Todd), Cheryl Jolley (Chris) and Debra Bechtel (Kirk), brother, Richard Mattern (Jan), sister, Dolores Bischoff, six grandchildren, Brooke, Ella, Edward, Eric, Will, and Megan and one great grandson, Braxton. A gathering will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 from 5-8 PM. A reception celebrating William's life will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Lehigh University's Iacocca Building (2n Floor) in the Wood Dining Room, 111 Research Dr., Bethlehem, PA 18015 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to cure4cam Childhood Cancer Foundation at cure4cam.org or you can mail donations to Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation, P.O.
