John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and especially trap shooting. He traveled across the United States to compete in many clay pigeon shooting events winning the 2015 West Virginia Shoot Single's Championship in addition to numerous other awards. Left to cherish John's memory is his devoted wife of 58 years, Sue Ann Hunnell, two daughters, Jeanne (Dennis) Johnson and Ginger (Chris) Thomas, several grandchildren; Dylan, Nate, and Levi Johnson and Riley and Finn Thomas. Additional family members include two sisters, Betty Morris and Bonnie (Tom) Hull; one brother, Charles Hunnell, brother-in-law Morgan (Roxanna) Beveridge and sister-in-law, Patricia Beveridge. John is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Stonerise Hospice and the staff at The Arbors of Woodsfield for providing excellent and compassionate care. With respect, the family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's honor to Crossed Paws Animal Shelter in Woodsfield.
