Raymond Yearty Obituary

Raymond Edward Yearty, age 67, had his faith become sight early Friday, March 14th after a 2-year, hard fought battle with neuroendocrine carcinoma.

Raymond was born at Atlanta Hospital June 13,1957 to Ed & Tiny Yearty. Raymond grew up in Marietta, attending MFBC since his birth, and graduating from Osborne High School in 1975. Raymond received his undergrad degree from Berry College & his Masters degree from Georgia Tech. After graduation Raymond worked for the CDC, and then Lockheed Martin for 23 years. He had the opportunity to continue his career with IBM and was a highly regarded consultant in recent years. He served over the years at Marietta First Baptist as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher and head of Missions committee.

Raymond met the love of his life, Pennie Foster (Yearty) while in church youth group at MFBC in 9TH grade. He & Pennie were married on Nov 24, 1979 and raised their two girls in West Cobb.

Raymond was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother, uncle, coach and friend to many. He spent many years coaching his girls in sports and being the calm in any storm the family faced throughout the years. He loved nothing more than his role of 'Grandaddy' which his five grandchildren affectionately called him. He spoiled them with many vacations, Braves season tickets, and much more. He was his happiest when any of his grandkids were around. He was loved for his gentle and kind spirit, encouraging words, his reassuring presence and his strong faith, that never wavered, even in his final days. His absence has left an unshakeable void, but we are confident he is in the arms of His Savior that he loved so much, and reunited with so many loved ones.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pennie Yearty, who took amazing care of him during his cancer battle. His daughters and son-in laws, Jennifer & Jimmy Martin (Marietta) Shannon & Matt Gorman (Rome) and his 5 grandchildren he greatly adored, Davis, Noah & Bennett Gorman, and Emery & James Martin. He is also survived by one brother Kit Yearty (Betty) in Tyler, Texas. Many nieces, nephews and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Tiny Yearty, his loving in-laws, Fran and Ovit Foster, and his granddaughter, Rebecca Reese Martin.

In his final days, Raymond was sure to tell his loved ones what a great life God had given him, what was awaiting him and the 'abundance of Gods Goodness all of his life.' We are comforted knowing he is healthy and whole again with his heavenly father.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 16th from 4-6pm at Historic Mayes Ward-Dobbins Chapel in Marietta. Per his wishes, a graveside service will be held 11AM Monday, March 17th at Kennesaw Memorial Park.
