Ralph Ascencio Obituary

Ralph J. Ascencio died peacefully on Aug. 4, 2017. He was born in North Dakota on Sept. 24, 1933, to Baldo and Emma (Schlage) Ascencio.
After serving in the U.S. Army (1953 to 1955), Ralph got his master's in social work and worked in the Sacramento area, retiring to Mendocino in the early 1990s. He was an avid pilot and spent many hours at the Little River Airport. He got his license and soloed at 60 years of age. With his friend, Mike Dunlap, he built a Rutan VariEze airplane. He also loved sailing his boat on the San Francisco Bay.
Ralph enjoyed classical music, played the cello and was an absolute devotee of Mozart. Loli Sergio was his companion for many trips to Europe, and many, many concerts of Mozart's music. Ralph was fond of saying, "Mozart, uber alles!"
Ralph could frequently be seen in Mendocino walking his beloved corgis, Samantha and Wolfie. Ralph was predeceased by Wolfie and Samantha is with her adopted dog-sitters who had agreed to take care of her after his passing if need be.
Ralph is survived by his brother, Gerald (Bev) Ascencio; sister, Stella Post; and nieces.
